We are seeking a qualified Fire Captain/EMT to join our Fire District! You will lead, train, and service the public through administer emergency medical care and responding to structure and wildland fire calls.

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II, Arizona Fire I & II certificate, ProBoard, or equivalent
  • Basic Wildland Firefighter certification (NWCG S-130/S-190)
  • NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver Operator certification
  • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I certification
  • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I certification
  • Possess a nationally recognized Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification. Candidate will be required to obtain an Arizona DHS certification
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Fire District insurance carrier.
  • Possess a current Healthcare Provider Level CPR certificate
  • Possess a HazMat operations level certificate
  • Minimum of five years firefighting experience
  • Associate Degree in Fire Science preferred
  • Must have no felony (within 10 years) or misdemeanor (within 3 years) convictions involving moral turpitude

Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, the Fire Captain supervises firefighting companies in the suppression of fires, emergency medical services, fire prevention, public education activities, and report writing. Captains oversee maintenance of fire station, equipment, apparatus, training, work activities, and related work duties as required. This position is designated as career and is non-exempt. The Fire Captain works a 48/96 schedule that includes weekends and holidays.

Position will be open until filled. Desired start date is 6/3/2024.

TFD is accepting resumes for the position of Captain (EMT-B or Paramedic). This is an opportunity to become a valuable member of a dynamic team serving the community of Tusayan/Grand Canyon. Tusayan is surrounded by thousands of acres of Ponderosa Forest in Kaibab National Forest. The community is located at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park (5 miles from the canyon rim). The community receives over six million visitors a year. This is an excellent chance to work at one of the most beautiful natural areas in the United States.
Tusayan Fire District is a small remote fire district in rural Northern Arizona. We are a combination district with 10 career staff and 13 volunteers. Generally, TFD responds to roughly 350 calls per year within a 35-mile radius of Tusayan. We staff the station 24/7 with 2-4 certified FF I&II/EMTs per shift. A private ambulance company also operates out of our station with an additional Paramedic and an EMT. The ability to commute is critical. We are looking for a highly self-motivated passionate Firefighter to join our family.
