Summary: Working directly for the Cafe Manager, and indirectly for the Hospitality Manager and Café Shift Leader, the busser will be responsible for providing the highest level of attentive, courteous customer service through cleaning and setting tables and chairs, quickly removing dirty dishes, serving drinks, and providing backup help for café staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete daily work, including opening and closing duties, as assigned by shift lead and/or café manager
  • Clear unneeded plates, utensils, and glassware from table when customers are seated.
  • Clear dishes and utensils after guests depart and deliver scraped and sorted dishes to dishwashing area for cleaning.
  • Sanitize each table and chair in preparation for next guest.
  • Reset tables in a timely manner to ensure all guest can be sat in a timely manner, ensuring tables are set according to the Shift Lead/Manager.
  • Ensure the chairs and floors around tables are clean.
  • Respond appropriately to guest request, communicate guest request to servers/managers immediately.
  • Ensure the availability and quality of all dishes, glassware, and utensils.
  • Serve beverages to guest and refill glasses as needed.
  • Monitor and interact with customers, responding to their needs as quickly as possible.
  • Assist in serving food and beverages appropriately.
  • Clean and dry spills immediately upon occurrence; never leave spills unattended.
  • Ensure serving area supplies are restocked daily.
  • Support dishwashing staff for breaks and lunches, and when back-up help is needed.
  • Perform janitorial duties of sweeping, mopping, spill clean-up, and trash removal.
  • Follow and maintain all sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Ensure that any breakage is reported and recorded.
  • Move furniture as directed by Shift Lead/Manager, including but not limited to: tables, chairs, bar tables, boxes, and equipment.
  • Communicate to customers about our wines, food, and specials sold in the Café.
  • Communicate the history of Phillips Farms – Michael David Winery.
  • Direct customers to restrooms and exits as needed.
  • Set-up seasonal décor.
  • Handling other dining room needs as requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. Experience helpful.

Certification: Requires current Food Handler’s Card.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
