**Education and Work Experience:**

- **Education:**

* High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent is required.

* Some college, or trade school, courses (or online) in business or sales is preferred.

- **Work Experience:**

* It is preferred that the candidate has had experience working in a consumer retail environment, assisting customers and handling sales transactions (cash, credit card processing, checks.)

* It is preferred the candidate have knowledge of second-hand products and general retail pricing.

* Candidate must be able to adapt well to a fast-paced sales and product processing environment.

* Additionally, experience working in processing especially second-hand store is preferred.

- **Customer Interaction:**

* Sales/Cashier Processing Associate often will be the first and the last person customer come into contact as a representative of the Salvation Army Pendleton Corp and the Thrift

* This employee must be able to interact with customers in a positive, cheerful, helpful and engaging manner, and especially support the Thrift Store in its merchandising schemes and pricing strategies.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:**

* Detail oriented, especially handling purchase transactions, with accounting balance of register tills at the end of a shift or close of the store.

* Self-starter who sees and does what is needed to ensure products on racks and shelves are kept orderly.

* Team player who fosters cooperation, mutual success and good will among fellow employees.

* Ability to work in fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure to meet goals.

* Customer service mindset in dealing with questions, concerns and/or issues.

* Willingness to keep the Salvation Army and Thrift Store operational information confidential.

* Consistently puts forth a cheerful, positive and energetic attitude with absolute integrity.

* Willingness to be cross-trained in other areas of the Thrift Store operations, as may be needed.

* When working in Product Process, it will be necessary to operate pricing tools, carts and racks.

**Software/Computer-Related Skills:**

* Efficient operating POS/cash registers and credit card systems.

* Proficient using web search engines and smart phone bar code application reader (when assisting in product processing to source competitive product pricing values.

* Experience using smart phone to look up comparable products and prices.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

- **Duties and Responsibilities:**

* Sales/Cashier Processing Associate reports directly to the Store Manager.

* This position also will be given duties and responsibilities in the product processing area.

* Scheduled days/hours may be changed, as necessary. Work the assigned hours and follow the designated rules, procedures and policies. Morning openings, evening closing and/or Saturday shifts will be scheduled.

* Cashier Station and immediate area is to be kept clean, orderly and proficient daily.

* Sales/Cashier Processing Associate is responsible for helping to keep the sales floor area presentable.

* A Salvation Army color red style shirt (polo, collared, tee-shirt, or similar) and black pants or skirt (for women) will be the dress code, unless otherwise prescribed by Store Manager for special days. Clothing not provided. Alternate clothing must have management prior approval.

* As Sales/Cashier Processing Associate, the Thrift Store standard greeting and thank you is imperative to consistently be put forth in an energetic, sincere manner.

* The Salvation Army reserves the right to revise or change job duties and responsibilities as may be necessary to meet operational goals and strategic objectives of the Thrift Store.

* Thrift Store staff meetings are required attendance and is paid as regular time.

* This position will be evaluated during the initial 3-months evaluation. At periodic intervals a written performance review will be done, in accordance with the Employee Manual.

- **Scope of Position:**

* The primary focus of this position as Sales/Cashier Processing Associate is to greet the customers in such a way they fully will enjoy their buying experience, be a regular repeat customer, and spread the good word.

* Additionally, this Sales/Cashier Processing Associate doubles as a product processer (sorting, cleaning and pricing merchandise.)

* All associates will have a scheduled chore.

* The Salvation Army reserves the right to revise or change job duties and responsibilities, as may be necessary, to meet operational goals and strategic objectives of the Thrift Store.

- **Daily Goals:**

* All Sales/Cashier Processors (when processing) have a goal of keeping the cashier station, and all areas within 25 feet, clean and clear of clutter at all time. These associates also will ensure all display glasses are frequently cleaned.

**Physical Requirements:**

* Ability to lift 40-55 pounds if needed to assist others in moving product for customers.

* Able to stand for long periods of time at Cashier Station or processing station.
