The Opportunity

The Systems Administrator role is a hybrid position located in Bethesda, MD. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform this job. The Systems Administrator will:

  • Maintain and update our Microsoft Azure IT infrastructure.
  • Design, develop, and support server and network deployments for technical programs; ensure system availability; OS (Windows) builds/upgrades; system patching; apply OS configuration to new systems; troubleshoot host/server failures and related issues; perform routine data backups; documenting maintenance actions taken; infrastructure diagrams; and document and prepare security mitigations.
  • Spec system requirements, estimate cost, and provide quotes to meet project/company needs.
  • Respond to tickets and monitoring alerts from staff, using helpdesk software.
  • Maintain and support the integrity of Active Directory, Exchange/Office 365, and their Domain components.
  • Support, configure, and develop the SharePoint environments.
  • Develop, configure, and maintain document libraries, enterprise lists, and site collections.
  • Manage SharePoint end user accounts, permissions, and access rights in accordance with best practices regarding privacy and security.
  • Perform systems maintenance tasks, such as software upgrades, backups, and recovery, including file maintenance.
  • Review systems for critical updates on a weekly basis or each time a major threat is announced.
  • Provide technical and leadership guidance to Tier 2 and Tier 3 support teams.
  • Be available to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management.
  • Remain on call for system issues with the real-time software during off business hours as deemed necessary.

Education & Qualifications

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience with administration and best practices of Office 365 and Microsoft Azure.
  • Proven understanding and troubleshooting of networking technology, such as TCP/IP protocols.
  • Experience with systems auditing, per security policies including firewall, OS, and application configurations.
  • A customer-oriented attitude and desire to help others succeed.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Personal and professional integrity that communicates a sense of mission, leadership, and ability to self-start, and a commitment to providing quality customer service.
  • A demonstrated positive and proactive approach in identifying problems, creating innovative solutions, and managing projects.
  • Proven ability to develop strategy as well as write, communicate, facilitate, and present to all levels of IT, internal staff, and management.
  • Flexibility and adaptable personality to handle shifting needs, evolving priorities, and urgent situations that arise.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and experience in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related areas; and
  • 10 years of experience leading and managing IT projects.
  • Ability to handle areas of delegated responsibility independently, initiate action, and follow through.
  • Must be able to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities at once.

The office is located in beautiful downtown Bethesda. We are located at a Metro stop within walking distance of great restaurants and local fare.We have a typical office setting with a quiet-to-moderate noise level and fluorescent lighting.
