About this job

ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Plant Operator to join our Operation Services team at our Eglin Energy Center located in Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. This position is on site.

The Plant Operator is responsible for operations, basic troubleshooting, and performing minor repairs on an 800 kW, 1.2 MW, and 1.5 MW generator and associated equipment in an effort to ensure reliable, efficient, and cost-effective long-term operation. The Plant Operator is also responsible for operating, monitoring, general electrical and mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting and landscaping activities on two solar fields to include mowing, spraying, and weed removal.

The essential functions of the position include:

  • The Plant Operator operates one or more types of control systems, generator(s), CHP plants, solar fields and provide customer service to government personnel at Eglin AFB
  • Primary duties as a Plant Operator involve:
    • Conduct generator and solar operations in accordance with ESG safety requirements
    • Ensure plant adheres to ESG and Eglin AFB safety and environmental regulations
    • Monitor, conduct, and maintain daily records of checks on equipment, gauges, and indicators to detect evidence of potential/active issues
    • Adjust controls to regulate generator power output, start or stop generators, or other equipment
    • Perform routine solar field electrical, mechanical, and grounds maintenance
    • Collaborate with contractors and vendors hired by ESG and ensure contractors and vendors follow ESG safety regulations
    • Communicate openly with ESG management and coworkers about all active or potential operational issues
    • Operate and maintain company owned vehicles and equipment
    • Perform general housekeeping
  • The ability to work after hours for service/emergency calls to maintain working equipment
  • The ability to travel with potential overnight stays as required to assist at Albany, Georgia site
  • Communicate with supervisors/management issues regarding job progress and assigned work
  • Responsible for safe work practices
  • Obtain safety permits and conduct activity hazard analyses
  • Use and ensure good condition of all personal protective equipment
  • Assist technicians/operators/contractors when necessary
  • Complete regular safety training
  • Ability to work safely from ladders, elevated platforms, and boom lifts

Your background includes:

  • High school degree, vocational/ technical training school
  • Experience operating natural gas or diesel fired generators

A bonus to have:

  • 5 years of related experience in the Energy Services/Power Generation, Performance Contracting, or Controls Industry
  • OSHA 30 Training
  • Associates degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls related field
