Description

Position Overview: As a Roller Operator at Vulcan Materials Company, you will play a crucial role in our heavy highway construction team, contributing to the creation of vital infrastructure across the nation. Your expertise in safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment, including an asphalt roller, will ensure that our projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Safety First: Prioritize safety as a core value by consistently adhering to OSHA and Vulcan safety standards. Take an active role in maintaining a safe work environment for yourself and your colleagues.

  2. Equipment Operation: Safely and skillfully operate heavy equipment such as an asphalt roller, broom, skid steer, and screws on the screed. Execute precise passes over terrain and asphalt to achieve specified grade according to marking on grade stakes or hand signals.

  3. Inspect Equipment: Conduct thorough equipment inspections and accurately complete required documentation to ensure equipment is in optimal condition for operation.

  4. Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance tasks such as greasing, oiling, and minor repairs on the equipment to keep it functioning efficiently.

  5. Labor and Flagging: Engage in tasks beyond equipment operation, including labor activities and flagging traffic on road construction sites as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.

  • Operational Knowledge: Proficiency in safely and competently operating various types of equipment, as listed in the job description.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication skills to present information to customers, clients, and colleagues in both one-on-one and small group settings. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Basic Math Skills: Capable of performing basic mathematical calculations.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work extended hours, including overtime, based on project demands. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and tolerate exposure to loud noises.
