Job Summary: A Certified General Motors (GM) Technician is a highly skilled professional responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles manufactured by General Motors. These technicians are trained and certified by GM and possess in-depth knowledge of GM vehicle systems and technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Vehicle Diagnostics:

    • Use advanced diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot vehicle issues accurately.
    • Interpret diagnostic codes, data, and computer-generated reports to diagnose problems.
  2. Repairs and Maintenance:

    • Perform a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and electronic repairs on GM vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and HVAC systems.
    • Conduct routine maintenance services, such as oil changes, brake inspections, and tire rotations, adhering to GM guidelines and recommendations.
  3. Parts Replacement:

    • Replace and install GM-specific parts and components, ensuring proper fit and functionality.
    • Follow GM repair procedures and specifications for all replacements.
  4. Software Updates and Programming:

    • Update and reprogram vehicle software, modules, and control units as needed to address performance, safety, and emissions issues.
    • Stay current with GM's latest software updates and technical service bulletins.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed records of all services performed, including parts used, labor hours, and diagnostic findings.
    • Complete service reports and warranty claim documentation accurately.
  6. Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure that all repair and maintenance work meets GM's quality standards and specifications.
    • Conduct quality control checks on completed work to verify accuracy and customer readiness.
  7. Customer Interaction:

    • Communicate effectively with customers to explain necessary repairs, provide estimates, and address concerns.
    • Offer expert advice on vehicle maintenance and recommend GM-approved services.
  8. Safety and Compliance:

    • Follow safety protocols and guidelines when working with GM vehicles and equipment.
    • Stay informed about GM safety recalls and conduct recall-related repairs as needed.
    • Adhere to environmental regulations and disposal guidelines.
  9. Training and Development:

    • Participate in ongoing GM training programs to stay up-to-date with the latest vehicle technologies and repair techniques.
    • Mentor and train apprentice technicians as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a GM-certified automotive technician training program is required.
  • Valid certification as a General Motors Certified Technician.
  • Extensive experience working with GM vehicles, including a strong understanding of GM-specific systems and technology.
  • Proficiency in using GM diagnostic tools and software.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy vehicle components.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
