Job Title: Summer Camp Staff

Location: Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, California

Job Summary: Summer Camp Staff members are crucial to the success of the camp experience. They are responsible for various tasks ranging from program facilitation to general camp maintenance. Staff members will work in specific areas based on their skills, interests, and the needs of the camp.

Season Dates:

  • Training Week: 6/16/24 - 6/22/24
  • Week 1: 6/23/24 - 6/29/24
  • Week 2: 6/30/24 - 7/6/24
  • Week 3: 7/7/24 - 7/13/24
  • Week 4: 7/14/24 - 7/20/24
  • Week 5: 7/21/24 - 7/27/24

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and supervise daily camp activities, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for campers.
  • Assist in your assigned program area such as aquatics, climbing, archery, crafts, nature, or other specialty areas, depending on skills and experience.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to campers, promoting a positive, inclusive, and respectful camp environment.
  • Participate in the set-up, maintenance, and breakdown of camp facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to camp policies, safety protocols, and BSA guidelines.
  • Act as a role model for campers, demonstrating positive behavior, teamwork, and Scout values.
  • Assist with mealtimes, camp clean-up, and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate and contribute to camp wide activities such as Campfire, Aquacade, Flag Assemblies, and others.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Respond thoughtfully to emergent situations
  • Support overall operations of Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley and the Orange County Boy Scouts of America.

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm for working with youth in an outdoor setting.
  • Ability to live on site during the summer season working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program scheduling requires.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Previous experience in camping, Scouting, or youth programs is advantageous.
  • Specific skills or certifications may be required for certain program areas (e.g., lifeguarding, archery instructor).
  • Minimum age of 16 Years

Work Environment:

  • Seasonal employment during the summer camp operating season.
  • Job involves both indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
  • Physical demands vary by position but may include lifting, walking, and standing for extended periods.
