Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer and Design Manager who will lead our design team. This person will help us advance our electrical products, systems, and applications. Daily, you’ll carry out various engineering tasks, such as reviewing project drawings to ensure our systems meet quality requirements. This leader will collaborate with our prefab design team and Project Managers to troubleshoot and ensure accuracy for the active projects. Ultimately, you will improve our company’s services and processes and contribute to its growth. Other essential job functions may include:

 

·       Providing electrical engineering recommendations and technical support on electrical engineering drawing reviews, strategic plans, and projects.

·       Manage a team schedule and project workload for 5 to 6 BIM operators.

·       Schedule and lead the customer meetings for each project.

·       Proposing and managing budgets for the electrical projects to ensure cost efficiency and accuracy.

·       Collaborating with other department leaders to ensure accuracy and efficient production needs for the project.

·       Familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment of a project.

·       Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly to the team.

·       Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel in the department.

·       Providing estimates for design build cost on new request for proposal of a design build.

·       Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.

·       Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.

·       Checking calculations made by other designers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and conformance to good engineering practice.

·       Assisting the design group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems. It is your responsibility to furnish sufficient sketches and details necessary for completion of engineering drawings.

·       Designing fire alarm systems for design build and shop drawing. These would be used for permit submission.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

·        BS in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university required, master’s degree a plus

·        2-3 years relevant work experience, including internship or cooperative program experience

·        Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) certification(s).

 

Preferred Skills

·       Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform engineering and design functions.

·       Knowledge of the standards that apply to instrumentation and controls (ISA).

·       Ability to act as discipline engineer of record for projects that require professional engineering certification.

·       Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.

·       Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments.

·       Working knowledge of CAD software, AutoCAD, Procore, Revit, adobe PDF

·       Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

·       Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

·       Excellent presentation skills.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in an office setting but may require some traveling and site visits. Standard workweek is Monday – Friday, 40 hours a week and with overtime as needed.

The office role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

Physical Demands

Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials; Requires repetitive movement; climbing ladders, scaffolds, or poles; standing, walking, and running; using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and bending or twisting. Maybe be necessary when in the field.  

The office is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
