Haitian Bridge Alliance, Inc. (HBA) also known as “The BRIDGE” is a 501(c)(3) grassroots nonprofit community organization that advocates for fair and humane immigration policies and provides migrants and immigrants with humanitarian, legal, and social services, with a particular focus on Black migrants, the Haitian community, women and girls, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and survivors of torture and other human rights abuses. HBA works to elevate the issues unique to Black migrants and build solidarity and collective movement toward policy change.  


HBA is made up of, and collaborates with, diverse people from different backgrounds, cultures, languages, classes, and education levels. About the Role 


Reporting into the Director of Storytelling, the communications and digital coordinator will be responsible for creating social media content, posting social media content, managing the press list, reporter outreach, sending out press releases, handling storytelling logistics, and serving as a production assistant. 


Responsibilities


  • Support the execution of a cross-cutting, trauma-informed storytelling strategy to significantly expand HBA’s overall presence on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, in line with HBA’s brand, tone, and visual identity 
  • Manage all logistics related to interviews, events, press calls, events and artistic project management 
  • Support the Director of Storytelling in creating an organizational content library to centralize all HBA storytelling assets including interviews, graphic illustrations, photography, reports, and testimony   
  • Work with the Director of Storytelling to create compelling content that centers migrants from a position of dignity and power, not victimization 
  • Design flyers, infographics, and regularly update the HBA website
  • Draft, edit, and run approvals for press releases 
  • Organize and execute press conferences and calls, often within a coalition setting 
  • Work with Community Center Staff to support relevant exhibitions and the art therapy programs in San Diego 


Qualifications / Skills:


  • English fluency is required; Haitian Kreyol fluency is strongly preferred. French or Spanish is a plus.  
  • At least two years of related work experience in communications, production or digital space 
  • Familiarity with social media listening tools, MailChimp, Wordpress, Canva, and Adobe 
  • Basic photography, photo editing and graphic design skills 
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility, patience, and willingness to “roll with the punches” as days can be unpredictable
  • Commitment to building an anti-racist immigration and asylum system that is based on dignity, community, kindness, empathy and welcoming 
  • Ability to travel to the borderlands, sometimes with little notice 
  • Well organized, comfortable handling logistics including attention to detail 


Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 per year
