The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health is recruiting a BCBA-D to assist in the development and supervision of this interdisciplinary program.  PHP professionals will include clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, BCBAs, pediatricians, licensed clinical social workers, nurses, dieticians, child life specialists, and teachers, as well as support staff, including a care coordinator/discharge planner.  Approximately 12 beds will be allocated for older children and teens with medical and psychiatric complexity, 6 beds for young children who require either med/psych or behavior services, and 6 beds for youth with severe behavior.

Training and/or experience with youth who have developmental differences, autism, genetic disorders impacting development and behavior, and who have severe disruptive behavior is required. Experience conducting functional behavior assessments and implementing function-based treatment plans is required.  Experience supervising direct-care staff (e.g., RBTs) and providing training for caregivers is preferred.

In addition to the PHP, Children’s Mercy is developing an integrated inpatient unit that will provide services for the patients named above, but who require inpatient care. Opportunities will exist to participate in the development of both programs.

This position will include teaching in the hospital’s pediatric medical and psychology training programs.  It will also include protected academic time for service, research, and other scholarly activities.  Faculty mentoring is available for those interested in clinical scholarship (e.g., program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives).  This position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have:

  • BCBA-D or a PhD in a closely related area and relevant training/experience
  • Relevant experience
  • Eligibility for licensure in Missouri and Kansas
