Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) Division provides industry leading metrology solutions for worldwide semiconductor IC manufacturers. The FaST Division portfolio of metrology products includes hardware and software solutions for optical film thickness, optical critical dimension (CD), composition, and resistivity measurement systems. These products are essential for the IC manufacturers as they provide critical metrology capabilities for the development and implementation of their advanced IC processes. The FaST division is committed to support our customers to achieve performance entitlement of our solution and we effectively partner with our customers from their early research and development phase to the high volume in-line manufacturing implementation specific for their process needs. The division consists of a global team located in US, Israel, China, and India.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer

Join the action! As an NPI engineer, you will support our division's new product development process. This engineering adventure starts with providing hands-on support during technology feasibility evaluations and continues through the release of new products into production. Along the way, you will partner with the design engineering team to complete product designs as well as build, test, and improve new prototypes. You will be responsible for the creation and release of critical items such as product BOMs, procedures, tooling, fixtures, and packaging. You will work closely with the manufacturing team to understand and provide what they need to be successful for mass production. Are you ready? Key responsibilities and skills:
  • Own NPI deliverables at sub-system level: Engineering product development and transition from Concept, Design and Prototype through Volume Manufacturing.
  • Generate and release the product Bill of Material (BOM) and work with technical writers to provide valuable input to generate assembly (OMS), integration, and test procedures.
  • Create, review, and submit engineering change orders (ECOs) to resolve design issues and improve manufacturability/serviceability.
  • Work closely with Development Engineering and Manufacturing to develop Manufacturing Plan, Processes and Procedures and transition to volume production.
  • Key participant in the design and development process; Propose new ideas and improvements, determine and review requirements. Experiencing, contributing to, and owning components in the critical PLC process.
  • Build, align, and test opto-mechanical, mechanical, and electrical assemblies for design validation and assembly procedure development.
  • Drive the development and release of the alignment/test tooling and packaging that are required to build and ship assemblies from our vendors to our manufacturing facility and the field.
  • Work with design engineers to manage and coordinate prototype material.
  • Support the field service team by coordinating the assembly, testing, shipment, and release of spare parts and field replaceable assemblies, including defining FRU strategy & serviceability requirements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and field service teams to resolve critical problems and implement continuous improvement projects (CIPs) to achieve cycle time, cost, and yield targets.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills, thorough, detail-oriented and make decisions based on data.
  • Motivated self-starter who is fast-learning, capable of working independently, and can effectively coordinate with a globally distributed team.
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (optical, electrical, mechanical, systems, industrial, or manufacturing) or physics or related technical field, or more than 5 years of demonstrated ability in the NPI role.
  • Experience with the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, including development of procedures, DFx (manufacturability, serviceability, etc), BOMs, OMS/SOE, assembly instructions, ECOs/ECRs/ECNs and working with vendors on complex electro-opto-mechanical assemblies, ERP/MRP (SAP preferred) systems, PLM/PLC (enovia, preferred) system.
  • Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project, Visio) a plus
  • Familiarity using 3D CAD software, preferably ProE/CREO/Pro-Process a plus.
  • Experience with Semiconductor Capital Equipment a plus.
  • Experience with designing, developing, and releasing to market semiconductor equipment.
  • Good communications skills. Ability to work with a globally distributed team.
  • Thorough and detail oriented.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years
