AVP, Portfolio Management Strategy

Position Summary:

The AVP for Transaction Fraud Strategy & Analytics within lending team is the fraud subject matter expert and will focus on developing strategies to mitigate authorization fraud risk, while creating “friction right” transaction experience for the customers. The role is highly visible within the organization, and regularly collaborates with stakeholders, operations, legal, compliance as well as 2nd line risk oversight.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides subject matter expertise over advanced analytic projects for fraud authorization, develops and optimizes detection rules, designs processes and computer codes to simulate and evaluate performance of the detection strategies. Based on the analytic output design, modifies risk mitigation strategies that can be deployed in the fraud detection system. 
  • Designs and stewards the transaction fraud road map to support the company’s strategic goals. It is critical and necessary to collaborate with fraud prevention, 2nd line risk oversight, operation, and technology in order to achieve this.
  • Leads efforts to research and implement improvements to business practices. Identifies, defines, and advocates for resources, data sources, tools, and systems that are appropriate for changing and growing needs.
  • Owns strategies to mitigate transaction fraud risk. Contributes to enterprise initiatives to improve fraud recovery and chargebacks using domain knowledge of data and analytics.  
  • Compliance with Laws & Regulations:
  • Responsible for complying with all of the Bank’s internal control policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with all laws and regulations to which the Bank is subject.
  • Responsible for communicating problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, noncompliance with laws and regulations, policy violations, or illegal acts. 

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical or quantitative disciplines such as, Statistics, Math, Operations Research is required.
  • Master’s Degree in analytical or quantitative disciplines such as, Statistics, Math, Operations Research is preferred.
  • Seven (7) years’ experience in transaction fraud prevention and detection for a Credit Card company or Consumer Finance is required.

 

Summary of Qualifications:

  • Data Driven:  Designs effective transaction fraud prevention strategies with analytically based assessment and deployment capabilities.
  • Hands On: The position is a "player-coach", someone who is willing to get their hands dirty. The position requires SAS/SQL/Python coding skills and a high level of comfort drawing well supported insights from complicated fraud authorization datasets in order to influence stakeholders.
  • Ownership Mindset: This position is responsible for the functional area with a high degree of initiative and passion in order to improve customer experience and reduce fraud losses.
  • Teamwork Skillset: The success in this role is tied to being a collaborative leader. The ability to establish trust with remote cross-functional teams, to influence positively, and to establish a feedback loop is critical.
  • Business Outcomes Oriented: The ability to balance strategic thinking and tactical execution is essential.
  • Experience with new digital applications like digital wallet is preferred.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical and business acumen skills: ability to derive patterns and trends, perform risk-reward trade off analysis etc.
