Job Description

Summary/Objective
The Carpenter performs tasks involving physical labor on all projects and will support the Lead Carpenter and the Project Manager. In this role, the Carpenter may perform general carpentry tasks as well as other basic remodeling tasks including, but not limited to, painting and finishing, drywall work, and insulation.


Essential Functions

1. Know and understand all plans and specifications for the assigned job and immediately get
answers to questions when plans and specifications are unclear.
2. Complete all work, as directed by the Lead Carpenter and/or the Project Manager related to
carpentry and other work generally done by this company such as:
 Framing
 Exterior trim
 Installation of windows and doors
 Installation of siding of all varieties
 Installation of interior doors
 Installation of interior trim of all varieties
 Installation of cabinets
 Installation of and hookup appliances
3. Any additional work requested by a customer must have a Change Order completed and
approved by the Lead Carpenter and/or the Project Manager before any work being
performed.
4. Have all the tools at the job site daily that are required for proper installation of the above-
mentioned tasks.
5. If requested, supervise all work done by subcontractors to ensure conformance with the company
standards and specifications.
6. Maintains a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to
eliminate potential hazards and ensure subcontractors clean up after themselves daily.
7. Assist Lead Carpenter in ordering the proper amount of materials to ensure that trips to pick up
additional material during the project is minimized.
8. Except if directed by the Lead Carpenter, be on site when the inspector(s) arrive, accompany
them and deal with issues that arise.
9. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to
the attention of the Lead Carpenter or Project Manager.

Supervisory responsibilities are limited to carpenter helpers and material control personnel as
required


Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne
particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to various extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.


Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee
to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods, and performs strenuous
physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects;
uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively
jumps, sprints, or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm,
two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and
legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may
be expected.


Required Education and Experience
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
3+ years of experience as a general laborer
1+ years of carpentry experience in the home improvement or construction industry


Preferred Education and Experience
Coursework in Carpentry at a trade school or community college.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license before employment.
