Job Description

Total Filtration Services, a division of Parker Hannifin, is a sales organization that focuses on the distribution of filtration products to end users. Currently, TFS is hiring for the position of Senior Buyer. The ideal candidate will be responsible for securing high-quality products and services through effective negotiation, and supplier management. Additionally, they will play a key role in selecting suppliers, negotiating payment terms/pricing, and coordinating delivery schedules. Working closely with the Division Procurement Manager, the Senior Buyer will oversee inventory management, cost-saving initiatives, supplier evaluations, and on time delivery of products both within and outside our ERP system.

  • Responsible for establishing/maintaining inventory levels at each assigned location.
  • Procure products, equipment, and materials by generating reorder reports and initiating purchase orders.
  • Issue purchase orders and agreements that accurately reflect negotiated price, schedule, terms, and conditions with suppliers.
  • Maintain precise lead times for assigned warehouses to ensure timely procurement.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve any purchase order or product discrepancies promptly.
  • Negotiate effectively on price, delivery, quality, and terms to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Implement continuous improvement techniques to enhance efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Share expertise and represent the company on various projects as required.
  • Provide mentorship to team members and actively contribute to team efforts.
  • Ensure a 99% fulfillment rate at the designated branch.
  • Validate stocking requests, ensuring proper approvals prior to order placement.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers and manage order controls and inventory levels for assigned branches.
  • Document processes to align with TFS standard operating procedures or internal desk manuals.
  • Prepare detailed reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provide comprehensive information on parts, equipment, and materials to address inquiries and requests.
  • Monitor and report on monthly purchasing metrics to track performance and identify areas for improvement.

This position is on site Full-Time in Troy, MI.

Education and Experience

  • 4 Year College Degree Required (Supply Chain Management or Relevant Discipline Preferred)
  • Minimum 5 Years of Buying Experience Required.
  • Certificate in Purchasing Management (CPM) or APICS desired.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of purchasing and negotiating methods, principles, and concepts. Knowledge of industry practices, general business operations, and policies.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to procurement.
  • General knowledge of and ability to apply continuous improvement techniques to purchasing and related areas.
  • Proficient in standard business application software and specialized purchasing and/or materials systems (e.g. electronic data interface (EDI) or manufacturing resource planning (MRP) systems).
  • Ability to work on a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of the situation or data requires thorough identification of factors and analysis of impact.
  • Ability to work within general work objectives regarding projects and team goals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies and recommend changes to procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to suppliers, team members, team leaders, and top management.
  • Ability to respond to significant inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to negotiate effectively to obtain best prices and terms on products, materials, and services.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goalsetting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
