CEC has an exciting opportunity for an environmental scientist to join our Team in Franklin, TN. The role is ideal for motivated, detail-oriented individuals with mechanical aptitude who are interested in working with engineers, geologists, and scientists to further develop a career in the environmental consulting field. The successful candidate will support project managers in meeting client needs, coordinate and implement site-specific project tasks, plan and conduct field work including surface water, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil gas, and air sampling, and provide office support. The ability and willingness to multi-task, maintain flexibility, work outdoors, perform fieldwork as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision and periodic travel is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Plan and perform field work, including surface water, wastewater, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, and air sampling;
  • Assist clients in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations;
  • Prepare daily and weekly field reports, progress reports, and project documentation;
  • Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communication and participation in work progress meetings;
  • Assist in the preparation of the final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices; and
  • Fieldwork (up to 90%) and overnight travel (up to 50%) required.
Qualifications
  • Professional or technical degree in engineering, geology, or other environmental related discipline;
  • Enjoy working outside;
  • 0-3 years experience is preferred; related experience in mechanical, construction, environmental, or solid waste field experience is a plus;
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing is required;
  • Must meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved properties, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (occasionally up to 50 lbs. unassisted), and providing services under varying weather conditions; and
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER training a plus.
