Environmental, Health & Safety Supervisor

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the EHS Manager to develop and implement company Environmental, Safety, Health, and Security programs; engaging and involving all workers to understand and employ safety, environmental, and security policies and programs.
  • Administer the incident management and near-miss program, investigating incidents, determining root causes, and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Provide counsel and floor support to site teams for safety, health and environmental questions, concerns, identification, and control of hazards, recommending best/better practices.
  • Lead the environmental programs established within the organization to include recycling of all office waste in accordance with program guidelines, initiate power conservation techniques by turning off lights and computers when not in use.
  • Perform onsite testing/monitoring to ensure compliance within environmental parameters.
  • Serves as a secondary point of contact for all Local, State and Federal EH&S related inquiries.
  • Assist the EHS Manager with maintaining, monitoring, and reporting on all EHS performance metrics.
  • Develop, train and conduct site EHS meetings, training, and coaching programs to ensure understanding of EHS compliance with employees, supervisors and site leadership.
  • Develop action plans to address deficiencies within the EHS Programs and work with site teams to identify corrective actions.
  • Perform Job Safety Analysis, PPE assessments and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure the worker’s compensation program is administered according to company guidelines. Completes First Reports of Injury and other records, maintains contact with workers’ compensation carriers and ensures reports are submitted timely. Proactively conducts ergonomic assessments and makes recommendations to reduce risk. Collaborates with HR on accommodations and return to work programs.
  • Participate in the Plant safety audit program, ensuring audits are performed as scheduled and data is captured, monitored, and used to drive improvements.
  • Partner with a broader EHS team on a wide variety of global EHS initiatives and projects across multiple EHS disciplines, including, but not limited to: worker’s compensation, EHS policy, change management, environmental performance, regulatory compliance, sustainability and social responsibility.
  • Manage, train, and develop EHS team members through mentoring, coaching and coordination of individual development plans. Provide performance feedback on an ongoing basis. Partner with HR on employee relations issues that involve safety.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and/or Environmental or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in safety and environmental management is required. Food manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience leading direct-reporting team members.
  • Proven track record of implementing effective EH&S programs with positive results.
  • Knowledge of appropriate federal, state, county, city and institutional regulations regarding food processing operations.
  • Knowledge of Workers Compensation claim management, including managing internal processes and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001, Federal, State, City and County standards and regulations.
  • Good problem-solving techniques including knowledge of LEAN and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Strong ability to communicate across all levels of an organization.
  • Effective training techniques to diverse audiences.
