2024 Summer Camp – Camp Medic – Camp McCormick

Locations: Camp McCormick – Stillman Valley, IL

Job Duration: Summer – May 28 – August 5, 2024

Salary: $500 Weekly

Camp Medic is responsible for overall health and safety of camp staff and campers during our summer camp program. Expectation is to provide an exciting, fun, and memorable experience for campers and staff. Also responsible for general sanitation and safety practices throughout camp.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise health and safety of camp Sundays through Fridays.
  • Visit Camp McCormick property regularly, spending at least 5+ hours on-site during visit.
  • If not on-site, must be on-call and available to come on-site if an emergency arises.
  • Participate in camper check-in process for health screening.
  • Administers medication, first aid, and addresses camper health concerns.
  • Inventories, resupplies, and maintains first aid equipment as necessary throughout camp.
  • Monitors the health of all campers, collects health reviews, and is responsible for all medical documentation. Notifies staff members of health precautions of campers (and staff) when indicated.
  • Develops sound relationships with staff, campers, and parents as needed regarding medical care.
  • Conducts daily checks of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and inventory.
  • Assist in unit housekeeping, sanitation, care of supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in supervision of campers to cover for other camp staffs’ breaks.
  • Will be asked to travel among both GSNI summer camps.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • EMT, nursing student, RN, LPN, WFR/WFA, or physician with current certifications.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
  • Understanding of current and upcoming medical knowledge, treatment, and breakthroughs.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Spend a minimum of 5+ hours on camp property daily for health checks. Preference towards full day and occasional overnight.
  • Ability to maneuver through camp without assistance and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Excellent communication skills.
