Overnight Camp Nurse

Under the direction of the Executive Director, over sees the health of all campers and staff at camp.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Review health records of campers for completion and call parents for corrections.
  2. Track and record all special needs, medications, dietary concerns or treatments for each camper.
  3. Maintain the medical log and note all visits and treatments including; date, time and name of person, general description of injury or illness and treatment, administration of medications and initials of person evaluating and treatment.
  4. Maintain a separate medication log documenting all the medications given in accordance with state and federal laws and ACA requirements.
  5. Maintain a signed copy of the physician’s standing orders in accordance with state and federal laws and ACA requirements.
  6. Note trends of recurrent complaints and notify director.
  7. Advise the director of any health related issues and provide recommendations.
  8. Administer appropriate medical care and treatment to campers and staff in compliance with standing orders and within scope of licensing.
  9. Maintain inventory of appropriate medical supplies and equipment.
  10. In the event of a medical emergency assume responsibility for decisions regarding the care or emergency treatment.
  11. Communicate with and educate staff regarding the appropriate care of campers and special needs of campers.
  12. Assist with camper check-in by interviewing parents and campers with medications or health issues.
  13. Maintain communication with parents as related to health issues.
  14. Consult with the Executive Director or the Director on duty regarding issues of home sickness, questions regarding calls home to parents or other issues of concern.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current license as MD, PA, APRN, RN, LPN in the State of Connecticut or ability to obtain license prior to start date.
  • Must possess a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification in either Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Experience in Pediatric or School nursing preferred
  • Experience with and desire to work with children ages 7 – 16.
  • Possess leadership abilities.
  • Good health, spiritually, mentally and physically
  • Person must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
