ABOUT THE POSITION
The Technical Publications Specialist prepares equipment Manuals and Operation/Service Manuals for all Astec Products to enable the customer to identify materials that were used to build their equipment.

Key Deliverables
  • Writes technical copy for manuals, user's guides, and publications.
  • Complies digital Manuals on the eCommerce site.
  • Produce manuals based on engineering data and manufacturing production schedule.
  • Review Bill of Materials changes to ensure that all updates have been made for the manuals.
  • Manually assemble technical publication hard copies for customers.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
  • Compiles and publishes product manuals in accordance with manufacturing production schedule.
  • Reviews drawing and bill-of-material changes for impact to publication data; schedules and incorporates changes into manuals.
  • Reviews drawings and design reports, writes text, and coordinates layout and design of materials.
  • Perform graphics work for catalogs, operator manuals, service manuals, and similar.
  • Load and manage content to online storefront for customer ordered publication reprints.
  • Maintain online catalogs and eCommerce content.
  • Will take the manuals that have been previously created and will make sure they are updated with changes that may come.
  • Communicate with the Engineering Service and Sales Teams effectively.
  • Depending on the functions of the role there may be a specific focus for the manuals that are being produced.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
  • Associates degree in technical writing, business, engineering/design, or manufacturing operations related discipline; equivalent combination of training, experience, and education.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Graphic design skills or desktop publishing skills (InDesign, Photoshop, FrameMaker and Illustrator).
  • Current hands-on experience using Microsoft Office Products, specifically Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret engineering drawings, documents, and other technical information.
  • 3 or more years of experience or education working with and/or interpreting engineering data or engineering drawings.
  • 3 or more year of experience or education using or working with technical publications.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and priorities.
  • Solid written communication skills; technical writing, editing and documentation experience.
  • Proficiency with Document online parts catalogs preferred but not required.
  • Experience interpreting commercial technical data including drawings, maintenance, and operations manuals.
