Job Description

Carrollwood Farms is a family-owned farm for generations to come. Carrollwood Farms is dedicated to showcasing and preserving the best of rural Piedmont. Carrollwood Farms is committed to being the best in all we do.

Carrollwood Farms is a family estate farm of over 4,000 acres in North Carolina’s Stokes and Rockingham Counties. In addition to the vegetable farming division we also have an agronomy division, a building division, a grounds division, and a sitework and grading division. A hospitality division is being developed. In 2023, we donated over 2200 pounds of produce from the garden.

DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for vegetable production in six acres of deer-fenced gardens as well as in a 3,000 square foot greenhouse.

The Vegetable Production Farmer will be responsible for germinating and cultivating all crops in the gardens, up to and including harvest as well as the removal of the season’s crops and establishment of winter and/or summer cover crops, as relevant. Rotating crops within season will also be under the purview of the Vegetable Production Farmer. The Vegetable Production Farmer should expect input on management practices from Ownership and the farm's Manager.

The Vegetable Production Farmer will spend 90% or more of her/his time in the gardens and greenhouse and will be responsible for record-keeping and data management. The Vegetable Production Farmer should be experienced with measuring and keeping record of pertinent garden dates such as planting date, harvest date, seeding rates, and more.

Adequate equipment including a variety of small tractors and implements are on site. The operation is presently being nurtured by dedicated part-time employees.

The Vegetable Production Farmer at Carrollwood Farms is expected to maintain a high level of work quality and properly maintain relevant equipment including at least one small tractor.

REQUIREMENTS

Carrollwood Farms is looking for an individual with the experience to develop our vegetable gardens to a showcase-worthy level. Eventually produce will be used in restaurants on the farm.

This role is ideal for someone with experience willing to embrace this opportunity to realize their dream of making a world-class garden come to life.

The right candidate will have knowledge of organic farm methods including, for example, organic pesticide management - when to use BT and when something faster-acting is required. That being said the garden is not being managed strictly organically.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Competitive, DOE.

Health insurance and 401(k) available. Contact Karl Kazaks at kkazaks@carrollwoodfarms.com.
