Professional Learning Coordinator
Queens Botanical Garden is an urban oasis where people, plants and cultures are celebrated through inspiring gardens, innovative educational programs, and demonstrations of environmental stewardship.

About This Opportunity

Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) is a professional learning resource for educators. QBG is one of eight Urban Advantage (UA) cultural institution partners serving the science education goals of teachers in NYC. The Professional Learning Coordinator will support the breath and quality of current training programs and expansion of professional learning resources to a larger audience. The Professional Learning Coordinator reports to the Professional Learning Manager and works in conjunction with education and other Garden staff. The Professional Learning Coordinator will support the management, writing and facilitation of professional learning for the UA program and non-UA professional development offerings.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development and delivery of the Urban Advantage program including curriculum creation, facilitating professional learning workshops, and providing mentoring and technical assistance on and off-site to participating elementary and middle school educators.
  • Collaborate with partners at other institutions to assist in the delivery of the overall Urban Advantage science initiative
  • Support administrative and logistical duties such as data tracking, reporting and maintenance, program supply inventory and ordering, program registration, etc.
  • Attend UA partner meetings to work on long term program goals, occasionally hosting partner meetings at Queens Botanical Garden
  • Serve as a point of contact for teachers, program partners, and other stakeholders
  • Attend family engagement visits at UA school events such as Family Science Nights
  • Collaborate with teachers who request support in planning curricula
  • Work with teams to organize professional learning and UA related eventsTravel for meetings, trainings and events to various institutions and schools across the city
  • Stay up to date in best teaching practices and strategies by researching, reading, participating in trainings and conferences
  • Support planning and facilitation of non-UA professional learning offerings for educators in and outside of QBG
  • Support additional QBG school programs as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in science, education or related fields; Masters degree or teacher certification a plus
  • At least 3 years of professional formal or informal experience writing and teaching science curricula
  • Experience in standards-based science teaching, such as NGSS and Amplify
  • Commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Train the trainer/professional development experience
  • Strong computer skills especially Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal, writing and organizational skills
  • Team-player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience in community building with multiple stakeholders
  • Schedule flexibility and ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Strong interest in botanical science and environmental sustainability
  • Cannot have worked for the NYCDOE in the last year
    Preferred:
    • Familiarity with the NYCDOE
    • Familiarity with the Next Generation Science Standards
    • Familiarity with learning management programs and virtual teaching platforms

Schedule:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with weekly on-site work, and some flexibility to work remotely. Schedule is generally Monday through Friday, with some required weekends and evenings throughout the year.

Salary Range: $48,000 - 52,000
