The Director & Assistant Controller is a critical leadership role within the Finance Department, combining strategic oversight with operational execution. This position is responsible for managing the accounting operations, helping prepare and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, implementing controls to mitigate risk, and supporting the Controller in financial strategy and reporting. The role demands a balance between strategic leadership and hands-on involvement in daily accounting activities.
Job Duties
- Within the accounting department, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
- Direct the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Supervise and participate in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entry reviews, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Assist the Controller and CFO in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities, providing strategic insights and analysis to support business decisions.
- Coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit.
- Help lead or support the implementation and optimization of financial systems, data environments, and software to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.
- Mentor and develop the accounting team, promoting a culture of high performance, accountability, and teamwork.
- Manage ad hoc financial analyses and projects, as required, to support the Controller, the CFO and other executive management.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a focus on teaming and developing staff.
- Strong understanding and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities with a strategic mindset.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems, with a preference for experience in SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Experience
- 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, or related functions.
- Comprehensive understanding of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and experience with financial audits.
- Big 4 experience preferred.
- SAP S/4HANA, Planful, Blackline, or financial data systems a plus.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field required.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Finance is a plus.
