Job Description
    Independently completes a variety of routine, semi-skilled, and manual labor tasks in the completion of wastewater collection system cleaning and inspection or excavation of sanitary sewer lines, force mains and manholes; works as the lead on an assigned crew in the completion of routine labor tasks, such as pulling hoses, setting up traffic control for work sites and flagging, removing debris from sewer lines or complex line repair and construction tasks; preparing materials and tools, cleaning holding tanks, sewer lines, and other areas using high pressure hoses, saw blades, and other equipment, and taking inventory of materials on a work truck or installation of a variety of erosion control and landscape materials as well as pavement repair and sets up traffic controls and completes traffic control tasks such as flagging.
  • Operates a variety of vehicles, light, medium and heavy duty equipment, and tools including backhoe, trucks, dump trucks skid loader, water trucks, compact rollers,mini excavator, crane truck, power broom, snow removal equipment, low boy trailers, track loaders, excavators large wheel loader or other equipment; follows established safety protocols for completion of safety sensitive work, such as wearing required personal protective equipment and following guidelines and directions for confined space entries; carries on-call phone or pager and responds to emergency and afterhours calls for service to address emergency requests and serves as subject matter expert or assist other staff with more complex and less routine calls.
  • Enters data into maintenance and other tracking systems; completes routine preventative maintenance as well as preventative maintenance of a more complex nature; responds to customer service inquiries and handles more complex or escalated questions or concerns from line cleaning crew leads and the public.
  • Makes NASSCO PACP based decisions and coding of the structures inspected with the CCTV units and inputs them into the county "CMMS" Computerized maintenance management system.
  • Serves as a field Foreman and leads crews of line cleaning and inspection or line repair and construction crew leader and team members; trains and mentors crew members on work techniques and methodologies; coordinates the daily activities, equipment, and personal needs with other Foreman and line cleaning or repair personnel. Communicates work plans and assigns tasks to crew members; provides instruction on the use of equipment and labor techniques; reads and interprets complex engineering plans, and specifications; attends and participates in coordination meetings. assists the Assistant Superintendent in developing priorities; assists in the planning of crew activities and monitors the safety of the crew; attends project meetings for more complex projects; provides feedback on the performance of crew members to the Assistant Superintendent for their follow-up.
  • Develops daily crew activity reports for tracking and payroll; provides instruction on the use of equipment and labor techniques: responds to citizen's issues and discusses/resolves issues with the public and other agencies; utilizes problem solving techniques and processes to facilitate the identification and resolution of problems and issues related to the completion of work assignments; completes a variety of employee related records such as Worker's Compensation documents and Accident Reports.

Job Requirements

High School and 6 years of experience with wastewater collection system cleaning, inspection, or repair; proficiency in CCTV, Jet truck and combination truck or wastewater collection system repair; proficiency in all aspects of excavation, restoration and skills trades associated with repairs ie; concrete work, plumbing, asphalt, landscaping, carpentry and equipment operation associated is required. Also 2-years of supervisory experience or leading, coordinating or directing the work of others is required. Class A or B CDL required depending on the position or crew; and an acceptable driving record is required.

Preferred: 4-years of direct customer service experience, KWEA Collection and NASSCO PACP, LACP, MACP certifications.

The Foreman job is safety sensitive and requires excessive standing and walking, exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, chemicals, heights, loud noises, raw sewage, and confined spaces. Both jobs also require lifting and carrying of 80 pounds, pushing and pulling 75 pounds, climbing, bending, crouching, kneeling, and balancing. This position will require the use of personal protective and other safety related tools or protocols in accordance with job functions which may include safety glasses, safety boots, gloves, and other items are all required.
