Department: Food

Reports to: General Manager

  • Must be available to drive 4-5 nights per week from May 10-October 10. 
  • Pays $11.20/HR + gratuity!

Summary:

To provide guided tours and information to park guests by performing the following duties:

Responsibilities  

  • Is minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Has a valid driver’s license and no serious driving offenses; must have satisfactory driving record per insurance guidelines.
  • Provides excellent guest service.
  • Becomes knowledgeable regarding various aspects of Custer State Park, including, but not necessarily limited to, proficiency in park history, flora and wildlife. Special emphasis on the buffalo herd and its management and the lifecycle, habits, and patterns of CSP buffalo.
  • Drives assigned and approved routes and roads within the park.
  • Maintains vehicles in a safe manner. Abides by all South Dakota driving laws at all times.
  • Able to become certified in CPR and Basic First Aid.
  • Serves meals at chuckwagon cookout area.
  • May serve Chuckwagon meal in other locations, depending upon weather conditions.
  • Reloads leftover food and equipment into vehicle at conclusion of meal. Unloads vehicle at lodge and store (reusable food according to kitchen policy). Cleans containers and helps with dishes from Chuckwagon dinner.
  • Takes responsibility for condition of grounds end equipment in Parker Canyon.
  • During slow times, helps in kitchen wherever possible to help alleviate work load, particularly early and late season.
  • May be assigned other duties, sometimes in other departments, as the need arises to support fellow staff members in achieving the company mission.

Education/Experience Preferred:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one-to-three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by
an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing abilities and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occurs continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other associates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Physical Requirements:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an
associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While
performing the duties of this job, the associate I regularly exposed to outside weather
conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
