Summary

JOB SUMMARY: This position require the candidate to work 2 days at Grace Medical Center as well as at Sinai Hospital and Northwest Hospital every week. 
 
Mammography technologists are the primary liaison between patients, licensed independent practitioner, and referring physician. The mammographer works independently to perform screening and diagnostic Mammography exams based on institutional policies and/or practice standards, under the supervision of the interpreting physician.  He or she must demonstrate an understanding of breast anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology and must also maintain accuracy in breast positioning, exposure techniques, and image evaluation while adhering to radiation protection and safety standards. 
 
The mammographer must understand the federal regulations governing mammography practice in order to meet the minimum standards for the performance of breast imaging. He or she must possess knowledge of quality assurance policies and quality control (QC) testing for the mammography modality of practice (film-screen or digital mammography) and perform quality control testing within the federal regulation guidelines.
 
When involved with invasive procedures in breast imaging, mammographers must be able to assist the interpreting physician as directed and to prepare, and/or document activities related to contrast media and/or medications, in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policies.
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Must be a graduate of an approved/accredited Radiologic Technology program. 
  • Must have met the guidelines associated with initial mammography training and have maintained appropriate modality specific continuing education credits. 
  • If mammography registry eligible, has 1 year from completion of mammography program to obtain registration. 
  • Preferred:  ARRT Registration in mammography. 
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum of one (1) year previous experience in a clinical setting.
