Hiring Range: $17.76 - $19.87

The Town of Erie's Recreation team is looking for dedicated and compassionate people to join us as our newest Camp Counselor II - Leads!

Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of duties such as assisting the Licensed Program Director in performing specialized instruction and program supervision for the Town's State-Licensed programs. This may include the coordination of staff and participants in daily activities.

All staff are expected to adhere to the Town's mission, vision and values of PRIDE.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Camp Duties

  • Assists the Licensed Program Director in performing specialized instruction and program supervision for State-Licensed programs. This may include coordination of staff and participants in daily activities.
  • Sets up and takes down required program equipment.
  • May serve as opening or closing staff member for State-Licensed programs.
  • Assist new staff with learning how to utilize equipment.
  • May use knowledge and expertise to modify class activities for various participant skill levels.
  • Provides exceptional guest service to all participants. Responds to information requests, comments and complaints from participants.
  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests.
  • Drive Town-owned vehicles to and from destinations while transporting passengers. Operates assigned motor vehicles safely and obeys all applicable traffic laws.
  • Ensure vehicle is ready for use including, but not limited to, obtaining keys, filling with gas, and cleaning vehicle/inspecting upon return.
  • Ensure passengers adhere to the correct usage of vehicle safety equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Administrative Duties

  • Assists in the planning program curriculum and conducts individualized or group instruction in areas of expertise.
  • Maintains frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division; reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
  • General knowledge of latest trends and techniques in areas. Assists in evaluating program effectiveness and suggests new activities or techniques.

Other/Miscellaneous

  • Administers first aid, CPR and may assist with other medical attention as needed.
  • May participate in or develops marketing material for events and programs.
  • Responds to emergency situations, administers first aid, CPR or other medical attention as needed, and completes incident reports. May be certified to administer medication per State Licensing regulations.
  • Remains composed and makes sound judgments in any emergency or non-emergency situation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and must successfully pass Criminal Background Check. Must have three months of verifiable full-time experience in the direct care and supervision of school age children (480 hours).

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS

  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within three months of employment

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication skills and must possess expert knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of recreational aquatics operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required.

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication; supervision, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; handling controversial issues; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed inside and outside a standard recreational facility environment. Work may involve competing demands, and performing multiple tasks.

Physical Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift storage boxes and sports equipment of 20lbs or more.
