Essential Job Functions

•Count narcotics with on-coming/off-going nurse.
•Receive/give report at beginning/end of shift.
•Pour liquid medicines.
•Relay any special treatments, activities, illnesses, cautions regarding resident to aide assigned to their care.
•Direct and supervise care given by aide to the resident.
•Report changes in resident conditions appropriately to Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.
•Make an assessment at beginning of shift of any resident mentioned in report as being ill or having problem.
•Report allegations of abuse or unusual occurrences immediately to the Administrator.
•Pass medications and chart at time given.
•Give treatments as ordered by physician.
•Check vital signs.
•Chart on weekly summaries as designated for that day and shift.
•Chart any unusual occurrences.
•Follow up charting where necessary.
•Report change in residents’ condition to physician or family.
•Take physicians phone orders.
•Transfer orders to MAR, treatment sheets, and appropriate departments.
•Do routine scheduled treatment, such as catheter changes when scheduled.
•Complete assessments in a timely manner.
•Assure interventions are taken to prevent problems: i.e., skin breakdowns, falls, and contractures.
•Make necessary arrangements of resident scheduled for out of facility doctor’s office visit.
•Check med cart for drugs that need reordering. Check which liquid medicines need reordering and phone in.
•Report any malfunctioning equipment.
•Provide direction and support to CNAs.
•Assist with passing trays and feeding residents at meal times.
•Assure aides keep record of meal intakes and offer substitutes as necessary.
•Make out assignments for next day.
•Complete thorough physical assessments and communicate findings effectively with resident’s physician
•Hold CNAs accountable for their care of the residents and ability to adhere to facility policies.
•Know where extinguishers are and how to direct the staff in cases of emergency.
•Remind and check to assure aides have completed monthly weights by 7th day of each month.
•Assure daily and weekly weights are obtained. Assign reweighs as necessary. Communicate significant weight changes to the physician.
•Work in conjunction with nurse/aide coordinator in resolving problems related to staff and residents and/or other departments.
•Attend in-services as necessary to stay abreast of changes pertaining to the nursing department.
Other duties may be assigned.
