DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Utility Plant Operator 1, you will assist in the operation and maintenance of the central boiler plant under the instruction and supervision of the Utilities Supervisor and/or a Utility Plant Operator 2. The central boiler plant continuously operates any combination of three 450 HP coal fired water tube high pressure steam boilers and three 250 HP natural gas/oil fired fire tube high pressure steam boiler and auxiliary equipment to provide this facility with uninterrupted steam for space heating, hot water, air conditioning, laundering, and dietary operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours cover all (3) shifts (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM), including weekends and holidays. Typical rotation is (6) days of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM with (4) days off, (7) days of 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM with (2) days off, and (7) days of 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM with (2) days off.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Six months of experience as a Utility Plant Helper (commonwealth title); or
• Six months of unskilled work experience assisting in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment, electronic equipment, electrical systems, heavy machinery, motors, engines, drives or hydraulic systems; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

• A conditional offer of employment will require satisfactory completion of a medical examination.
