The City of Aspen is hiring for seasonal parks positions in the following areas:
Job Title: Gardening Technician

Hiring Range (hourly): $22.39/min - $24.63/mid - $26.86/max

Position Summary:
Gardening Technicians are stewards of the Aspen horticulture displays and perform all tasks that involve the planting, design and upkeep of our towns vibrant annual and perennial gardens. This a great opportunity to flex your green thumb in a beautiful World Class setting. Our professionals are excited to train new staff and encourage those with more experience the opportunity to expand their horizons. Our gardeners oversee horticulture displays such as annual/perennial gardens, roof gardens, arranged flower planters, and all other things horticulture. Enjoy working each day within a team structure and find a new passion in gardening. Use of City managed cars/trucks and work carts are supplied for transport throughout work environment. Work in a highly successful and innovative Parks Department that values proper safety guidelines and worker enjoyment. Full-time four day, part-time and possible flexible schedule opportunities available. Carpool and bus pass opportunities available and for those that complete season commitment there is an end of season bonus.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the direct supervision of Horticultural Field Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:
Floral and Horticulture
* Maintain floral assets (annual/perennial gardens, roof gardens, annual flower planters, etc.)
* Plant annual and perennial flowers, prune and deadhead gardens
* Hand water all areas under the purview of this department
* Learn and perform weed, tree/shrub pruning, vegetation management and garden preparation
* Daily operation of trimmers, cars/trucks, electric and gas work carts
* Professional interactions with the general public occur occasionally
* Must follow proper safety guidelines and responsibility for use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Essential Physical Requirements:
* Visual Acuity: Ability to bring objects into focus.
* Balancing: Maintaining equilibrium.
* Bending: Bending or position oneself to move an object from one level to another.
* Carrying: Occasionally up to 50 lbs. such as open space signs, posts, interpretive displays, bags of native seed and fertilizer, plant materials, etc.
Crouching: Bending body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
* Climbing: Ascending or descending stationary objects.
* Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Performing work through using two or more body parts or other devices.
* Gripping/Grasping: Ability to apply pressure with fingers and palm.
* Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, through use of hands, fingers, or other means.
* Hearing: Perceiving and comprehending the nature and direction of sounds.
* Kneeling: Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees
* Lifting: Occasionally up to 50 lbs. such as signs, posts, interpretive displays, bags of native seed and fertilizer, plant materials, etc.
* Pushing/Pulling: Ability to use upper extremities to exert force in order to press, draw, drag or haul objects in a sustained motion.
* Reaching: Extending the hands and arms or other device in any direction.
* Repetitive motions: Making frequent or continuous movements.
* Sitting: Remaining in a stationary position.
* Standing: Ability to sustain position for a period of time.
* Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
* Talking: Communicating ideas or exchanging information.
* Walking: Ability to move to traverse from one location to another.
