Job Description
Primary Function: Operate and Maintain the Companies Heavy Equipment
Duties to include but not limited to equipment operating:
* Utilize and operate machinery for the purpose it was designed with knowledge of the unit's capabilities. Must possess the skills and technique to operate the machinery to its maximum potential, having an inherit feel and finesse to know when said machinery's working capability is being compromised or in conflict with an external obstacle or utility.
* Daily check the fluid levels and grease equipment as required.
* Check the equipment being operated fuel system, lubricants, tires, tracks, rollers, hydraulics for wear or any leaks and report any problems to the Foreman or Shop Superintendent.
* Monitor the fuel levels of equipment operated and ensure that ample notification is given to the Fueler or Foreman for refueling to avoid any equipment downtime.
* Monitor the service dates of the equipment operated and notify the foreman or Shop Superintendent of any service due dates.
* Always pay attention to sound of the equipment operated and report any unusual noises or sounds.
* Always operate the equipment in a safe manner and be on the look out for any unsafe conditions on the jobsite.
* Pay particular attention when backing equipment to ensure the pathway is clear of pedestrians or vehicles.
* Ensure that back up alarms are in good working order.
* Never carry passengers on the equipment your operating and never wear any music or phone headphones or earbuds.
* Never be on your cell phone while operating equipment.
* If operating track mounted equipment always keep the tracks clean and clear of dirt and debris.
* Always keep equipment clean and perform cleaning activities whenever equipment is idle while waiting for the crew to perform their activities.
* Assist the crew during down time performing laborer tasks.
* Park equipment overnight in locations that are neat and safe and accessible to the Fueler and install windshield protection devices and locking devices.
* Always observe fuel fill points for any signs of dirt or debris that could be the result of tampering by vandals.
* When operating equipment utilizing steel cables always check cables for any worn or frayed areas and report anything suspicious to the maintenance personnel.
* Minimize shutting off equipment.
