This role is a 10-month position that aligns with the school year calendar, allowing you to work full-time from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM. Additionally, you will have summers off, providing you with a well-deserved break to recharge and prepare for the next school year.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will crucial role within our community and educational institutions, as you are responsible for implementing and developing programs aimed at educating and preventing alcohol and drug addiction. Serving as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist, your primary duty is to deliver evidence-based drug and alcohol prevention programming to students from kindergarten to twelfth grade. Additionally, you will establish guidelines for teachers to enhance existing materials and ensure they align with the requirements set by school personnel. In addition to their instructional responsibilities, this position entails actively participating in conducting trainings for teachers, parents, service providers, and the wider community. This role will also serve as a D&A Liaison during core meetings of the Student Assistance Program across three county school districts. Furthermore, your duties extend to providing intervention services within a school setting, conducting D&A screenings for students, and co-facilitating support groups. This role should possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, enabling them to effectively convey information to various audiences. You should also demonstrate strong multitasking abilities, organizational skills, and the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Additionally, you should be comfortable speaking publicly to large groups, as this will be a regular requirement of the position.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal Full-time employment, 10-month position during the school year
  • Start time and hours depend on school schedule. Employee works during school year and occasionally during other times as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee; or
  • A bachelor's degree in health education, Education, the Social or Behavioral Sciences or related fields and one year experience in drug and alcohol prevention work; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, and Wayne counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
