Job Description

The Engineering Manager will oversee the technical and engineering functions as well as direct the distribution of work and activities to support all division requirements. The incumbent will manage the Division’s Technical Team (engineering and technical setup), work hands on with the team, as well as advise on training and hiring of the departmental maintenance staff.

This individual will also be responsible for the design and implementation of factory automation. These activities will include, but not be limited to, design, evaluation, and installation of new factory automation as well as the continuous improvement and modernization of existing manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Leadership responsibilities:
    • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff in the department.
    • Mentor and guide direct reports.
    • Oversee the daily workflow of the direct reports.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Design, research, specify factory automation, equipment and systems. Manage the process and train other engineering personnel for procurement and installation of new manufacturing processes, distribution or utility systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and ensure the use of common standards and practices across the technical group.
  • Drive continuous improvement and safety activities.
  • Provide guidance for quote development, design standards, project management and equipment validation for the technical group.
  • Actively engage in engineering activities - this is a hands-on role.
  • Lead process improvement activities throughout the division, including, but is not limited to, the investigation and recommendation of materials and equipment.
  • Provide leadership to ensure manufacturability of new projects as well as the appropriateness of the design for the application and making use of applying technology advancements.
  • Ensure that projects are effectively managed for costs, timing and expected capabilities.
  • Manage and assign resources as needed within the technical team.
  • Identify and develop future talent in anticipation of future business requirements.
  • Prepare and direct the preparation of engineering drawings and maintenance documentation related to equipment and systems.
  • Execution of administration policies with all technical personnel.
  • Assist corporate resources with facility support.
  • Champion strategic corporate initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience.
  • Recent 3D CAD experience. Experience with Creo and designing industrial equipment (hydraulic, servo motion, robotic system design, etc.). is each a plus.
  • Project management experience – managing multiple projects to multiple deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to act as a leader and technical resource.
  • Experience with direct reports is a plus. Also open those that have had indirect reports, led projects, other leadership experience, etc.
  • Financial management experience (budget, preparation, expense control, capital expenditure planning, etc.) is a plus.
