The Business Development Leader will help with the development and growth of one of Alera Group’s national specialty employee benefits practices (Lumity Brokerage). This role will drive, strategize and coordinate all aspects of opportunity development for their own opportunities as well as the business development team member including marketing, networking, product demos, proposals, quoting and more.  The Business Development Leader will manage their own opportunities while also serving as a coach and providing training for their team of business developers. This role will report directly to the VP of Sales for Lumity Brokerage and will be responsible for status and sales updates with leadership.


  • Recruiting competent new business developers and building out an exceptional team
  • Identifying and contacting potential clients through networking and marketing methods
  • Research and monitor emerging trends and geographic area dynamics to help inform business development opportunities
  • Create written and verbal sales communications to convey the Lumity Brokerage value proposition
  • Manages business development plans/projects and leads activities to ensure plans/projects are on-track and meeting objectives
  • Collaborate with the sales team and producers to ensure new business winsEstablish specific and measurable goals for the team that align with overall objectives and growth targetsMonitor, track, and manage the team’s performance and pipeline
  • Training and development. Provide your team with necessary resources and training (e.g., product knowledge, sales training, and communication skills)Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork across other offices
  • Maintain an open line of communication with your team and other leaders
  • All other duties as assigned

  • 7+ years progressive experience in business development and management within technology-based companies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, within a company focused on growth
  • Experience with Health & Welfare Benefits strongly preferred
  • Highly motivated, confident, energetic and must possess a positive attitude
  • Strong relationship management and the ability to engage and motivate multiple individuals across the organization and at all levels within the company as well
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to apply these skills in either verbal or written form when interacting with various firms, clients, and team members
  • Must be resourceful and a creative problem solver – constructively working with team members to find solutions and able to communicate those back
  • Availability to travel up to 25%
