Job Overview

This position is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of commercial loan portfolios in a specified geographic market. Manage and coordinate the marketing, delivery and support of the bank's offerings including loans, deposits, treasury management, and other banking products and services. Achieve established goals through people and processes by bridging strategic objectives to behaviors and deliverables. Foster a motivated and diverse team environment, positioning colleagues for success by establishing clear objectives to achieve established goals. Supervise, coach and advise a group of direct reports to support the growth and development of their respective portfolios, while ensuring consistency in delivering Exceptional Service and Sensible Advice.

Drive regional, branch and individual performance, sales growth, customer satisfaction and operational integrity through visible leadership, performance management, key partnerships, planning and execution.

Principal Accountabilities

This position is accountable for Commercial Banking Growth, Asset Quality, Retail Banking Growth (Direct Consumer Loans), and Market Expansion. Ensure proper maintenance of internal controls through a strong risk management focus. Represent the Bank to both internal and external customers in a courteous, professional manner in face-to-face, electronic and telephone communications. Accountable for adherence to regulatory compliance standards including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), company policies and procedures, as well as the quality and timeliness of departmental activities. Actively protect confidentiality of customer and account information. Demonstrate Horizon Bank's commitment to the communities we serve through active involvement in local organizations and events, upholding Horizon values throughout the market.

Duties

Sales and Marketing:

  • Lead the sales efforts for the assigned market area to achieve or exceed the Commercial Loan growth goals.
  • Support Horizon's "Sales Principles" by action, deed and communications. Utilize and support Horizon's sales management tools including CallTrax, Pipeline Report, Closed Business Referrals, Center of Influence Call Tracking, Community Reinvestment Call Tracking and Prospect Tracking reports.
  • Responsible for growing core deposits and treasury management services. Core deposits consist of demand, savings and money market accounts. Treasury management services consist of internet banking, mobile banking, merchant processing, positive pay, remote deposit capture, e-statements and debit cards
  • Work with the marketing department to implement regional marketing plans and align external media campaigns with internal campaigns. Assist the marketing department by supporting Horizon's social media efforts and identifying publicity release opportunities
  • Horizon's culture revolves around the belief in measurement and sharing results with the team. Financial and sales results must be consistently and regularly shared with the team.

Advisor Recruitment, Recognition and Retention:

  • Responsible for retaining and recruiting a successful team of Advisors from the local market area. This team includes commercial lenders, business bankers, and treasury management professionals.
  • Assist in recruiting wealth and investment management administrators and mortgage loan originators.
  • Promote Advisor recognition programs by recognizing staff and encouraging managers to actively participate in recognition programs.

Team Learning & Development:

  • Responsible for all regional learning and development, job enrichment, career path planning and succession planning. Assign mentors to assist new Advisors on their acclimation to the Company and team.
  • Deliver learning and development plans, courses or programs and take the initiative to ensure programs are in place to support the team. Support and encourage participation in all corporate learning and development efforts.
  • Promote personal development by participating in ongoing skill, compliance, product, market, risk management and security training as required for the position.

Credit / Loan Authority:

Market Presidents are granted loan over-ride authority for all loan portfolios within their assigned lending limits based on prior performance, portfolio trends, asset quality, economic conditions and financial results.

  • Utilize over-rides responsibly through communication with the team to maintain key financial or business relationships and to make decisions based on local market knowledge and conditions. All credit decision over-rides must be well documented to support the business reason.
  • Represent the market area on the regional and corporate loan committees

Enterprise Risk Management ("ERM"):

  • Responsible for all ERM within their assigned markets, including other losses, credit losses, compliance with all rules, regulations and policies and on-going ERM training. In addition, responsible for supporting Horizon's Code of Conduct and Duty to Report
  • Perform all work in compliance with established regulations, policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent education and experience
  • Eight years of banking experience with progressive responsibilities; Four years of management experience within a bank with strong knowledge of Bank regulations pertaining to lending and debt collection.
  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding financial and/or lending goals
  • Leadership - demonstrated ability to perform a variety of leadership roles such as community advocate, set and accomplish goals, foster excellence, get things done.
  • Successful track record - having a proven performance record as evidenced through solid financial performance, risk management and success of staff.
  • Commercial relationship builder - understands the importance of building commercial relationships and manages commercial market portfolio as well as building quality loan relationships within market. Manages own commercial loan portfolio.
  • Business Development - Experience creating and implementing an ongoing business development program in order to assist existing customers and solicit new customers to the bank.
  • Knowledge of the target market area and ability to expand the bank's presence and develop a successful team.
  • Community supporter - recognizes the importance of a community bank and is active in supporting the bank's involvement in the community
  • Solid knowledge of relevant PC software applications, such as Word and Excel.
  • Articulate with ability to communicate at all levels within in the organization and with external customers.
