Assists Director of the Getty Research Institute (GRI) and the Associate Director by facilitating research and/or assisting with research projects, exhibitions, and publications. The ideal candidate will be a graduate student with a strong working knowledge in Spanish and a background in Pre-Columbian art history and/or archaeology or Latin American studies.
- Researches, edits, and enters content into research database relating to exhibition and other related projects
- Skill in Excel spreadsheets and Filemaker Pro related to provenance of Pre-Hispanic art
- Conducts research in GRI Special Collections
- Contributes to the conceptual development of a project by organizing/creating documentation of research materials, such as bibliographies, searching for and ordering texts, writing literature reviews, etc.
- Assists with ongoing research projects in different aspects of Latin-American art, ancient to contemporary
- Researches and manages database of bibliographic references
- Requests images for exhibitions and/or publications; researches and obtains art and image permissions
- Proofreads, edits, and translates as needed
- Assists with creation of project websites and PowerPoint presentations
- May copyedit essays, author biographies, endnotes, etc.
Researches and documents materials essential for a 2026 exhibition on the Stendahl Art Gallery of Hollywood
- Bachelor's degree in art history or related field; Master's degree preferred; PhD or ABD welcome
- 0-2 years research experience (education may be considered)
- Working knowledge in at least one foreign language preferred
- Background in Pre-Columbian art history or archaeology or Latin American studies
- Attention to detail and interest in maintaining metadata standards
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
- Ability to build relationships, partner with others and work on teams
- Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GSuite, Filemaker Pro and Adobe software suites preferred, experience with Airtable a plus.
