CEC is continuing to grow and we have an exciting opportunity for an environmental technician to join our Team in Franklin, TN. The role is ideal for motivated, detail-oriented individuals with mechanical aptitude who are interested in working with engineers, geologists, and scientists to build a career in the environmental consulting field. The successful candidate will coordinate and implement site-specific project tasks, plan and conduct field work including surface water, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil gas, and air sampling, and provide office support. The ability and willingness to multi-task, maintain flexibility, work outdoors, perform fieldwork as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision and periodic travel is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Plan and perform field work, including surface water, wastewater, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, and air sampling;
  • Assist clients in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations;
  • Prepare daily and weekly field reports and progress reports;
  • Prepare project documentation that is correct and consistent with company policy and procedures;
  • Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communication and participation in work progress meetings;
  • Assist in the preparation of the final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices; and
  • Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company's Workplace Safety Manuel policies and procedures;
  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm; we also offer professional and technical development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our staff to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants;
  • Fieldwork: Up to 90%; and
  • Overnight travel: Up to 50%.
Qualifications
  • Enjoy working outside;
  • 0 to 5 years experience is preferred; related experience in mechanical, construction, environmental, or solid waste field experience is a plus;
  • Mechanical or construction knowledge is preferred;
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing is required, willingness to travel;
  • Must meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (occasionally up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), carrying and climbing ladders, operating and working from man lifts, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions;
  • Ability to work independently in the field while following operating procedures;
  • Technical training or experience collecting samples a plus; and
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER training a plus.
