Design Engineering NA Team

The Design Engineering North America (NA) comprises a skilled team of Design Managers, Program Managers, and experts in Engineering and Architecture. Our collective expertise is harnessed to create customized adaptations of the cutting-edge Vantage Data Center prototype that perfectly cater to the unique requirements of our customers. Throughout this process, close collaboration takes place with Sales, Operations, and management teams. The Design Engineering team also maintains a close partnership with the Construction team, working together to craft a seamlessly integrated design that ensures the efficient execution of new and existing standards and designs.

Position Description

Vantage is looking for a Sustainability Engineer to be part of the Design Engineering NA team. In this role, you will be accountable for developing sustainability engineering principles for the program, sustainability opportunity identification for projects assigned, analysis, approval, and implementation, high-level schematic system analysis, specification of sustainability features development, submittal review, design document review, and executive reporting across the region. Regular collaboration and coordination are required with design management, electrical, mechanical, CSA and automation systems design disciplines, as well as the construction management team, the sustainability team, and the procurement team. Some client interface meetings are necessary throughout the development cycle.

You will be presented with complex engineering challenges and be asked to bring them to resolution with all the tools at your disposal, supporting Vantage's sustainability targets as defined by management.

Vantage has a very collaborative work environment, and you will need to assume responsibility to interface and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, customers, and contractors. Vantage's Design Engineering NA team is engaged in the company's sales process, and we leverage our SMEs to cater our product offerings to meet the ever-evolving needs of our customer base. This means you will work with Vantage's customer subject matter experts to translate requirements into tangible solutions. Your role will have a meaningful impact on the bottom-line profitability and success of the company.

Essential Job Functions & Duties

  • Execute the long-term strategy defined by the Global Sustainability team by adapting high-level program concepts to regional and project-specific design solutions.

  • Report weekly to leadership on design progress, blockers, risks, and assignment of priorities.

  • Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings.

  • Support Sales during site visits, RFP response, both standard, and bespoke solutions, and customer meetings.

  • Participate in the design of efficient and sustainable data centers and in minimizing the environmental impact of construction activities.

  • Identify and develop opportunities to drive sustainability targets, inclusive of financial modeling to select the best solutions for the business.

  • Identify, develop, and maintain sustainability engineering principles that will drive multi-disciplinary engineering decisions.

  • Build the baseline of local regulations, standards, and directives to be followed in the region.

  • Manage all project-level engagement from third parties on sustainability efforts.

  • Coordinate heavily with internal engineering teams across all disciplines to ensure products delivered to Operations are streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions.

  • Management of external sustainability engineering contractors.

  • Drive project-level tasks and milestones assigned by the project management team.

  • Provide oversight and review of project sustainability efforts, equipment, and system submittals.

  • SME responsible for technical reviews including submittals, RFIs, energy models, and engineering studies/analysis related to sustainability.

  • Participate in product development process flow from idea to implementation to apply for and obtain patents for the company to retain its Intellectual Property rights.

  • Additional duties as assigned from time to time by management.

Skills, Knowledge, And Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university or college, Sustainability Engineering is preferred.

  • 5 - 7years of experience in design and construction is preferred.

  • 5 years of experience in the field of sustainability engineering for mission-critical facilities is highly desirable.

  • Professional Engineering license in any state within the United States.

  • Professional certifications such as LEED AP, CEM, Certified Green Building Engineer, Energy Star LP are a plus.

  • Experience within the North American construction markets is required.

  • Working knowledge of critical electrical and cooling infrastructure within a data center is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of all building codes and ordinances, including ASHRAE, BREEAM, Energy Star, LEED and federal energy conservation mandates.

  • Experience building data center energy models is a plus.

  • BEMP certification is highly desirable.

  • Travel required is expected to be 15 to 20% but may increase over time as the business evolves.

Additional Information

  • Salary Range: $130,000 - $145,000 base plus bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
