Description

Summary: The Advocate provides support for medical services by assisting with treatment plans; treatment plan reviews; patient assistance programs; IDP, outcomes; authorization overrides; follow-ups, State paperwork and referrals. Conducts face-to-face visits; handles medical service related telephone calls with individuals receiving medical outpatient mental health services.

Illustrative Duties and Performance Responsibilities:

The duties of the Advocate position include the following, as well as performance of other work related duties as assigned:

  1. Coordinate with doctor and participates in medical treatment planning and reviews; consults with each patient concerning attainment of treatment plan goals and objectives.
  2. Order medications as requested by medical staff/doctor
  3. Maintains medication inventory
  4. Records/maintains medication samples and IDP
  5. Complete required state and intake paperwork
  6. Back up front office/reception. Assist with scheduling appointments, super bills/payments, answering phones.
  7. Complete and comply with Request for records
  8. Responsible for maintaining the patient's chart in compliance with State, CARF, Medicaid, and other rules and standards.
  9. Attend and participate in training activities, staff meetings, and supervisory sessions.
  10. Participate in Quality Improvement activities and committee assignments as requested.
  11. Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team.
  12. Ability to organize, interpret and communicate data in a comprehensive and effective manner.
  13. Knowledge and understanding of Medicaid, CARF and Department of Children and Families rules and regulations.
  14. Ability to communicate information effectively in both oral and written formats.
  15. Ensure that if a psychiatric evaluation is being billed on a SAL that there is a note on the psychiatric evaluation
  16. Assists in taking vitals of patients.
  17. Assists in prepping patient for appointment
  18. Assists psychiatrist as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalence issue by a state department of education. Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Required one year Medical Office experience, preferred six months Mental Health/Substance Abuse background
  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and an annual Tuberculosis test.
  • Ability to provide an Affidavit of Good Moral Character
  • Clearance in Pre-Employment Drug Testing and Criminal Records Checks, as required.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation
