DESCRIPTION

The Community Services Department is looking for an energetic and motivated individual to educate park users on standards, safety and cleanliness, report problems, provide resources, and manage group activities. Corona has 36 parks, 7 recreation facilities, and a variety of trails and open spaces.

The Park Ranger is a part-time, year-round position, may work on weekends and holidays and requires up to approximately 20-hours per week. The Park Ranger program will be scheduled around peak use times that often include afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.


Education/Training/Experience


  • Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have completed 12th grade or equivalent GED.
  • Six (6) months of experience in park and open space operations, public service, or a related field.
  • Experience in state and local laws, codes, and ordinances related to park operations and management and PC 832 certification and training are highly desirable.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 3 months of employment, a valid CPR and first aid certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • PC 832 training must be completed within six months of employment.
  • Due to the performance of field duties which will require operation of a motor vehicle, a valid California Class C Driver's License and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and through employment is required.

Skills/Abilities

  • Educate and advise the public on standards of safety, civility and cleanliness by explaining and enforcing park policies, regulations and City ordinances relating to park and facility use.
  • Open and secure specialized park facilities, skate parks, restrooms, gates and trails.
  • Ensure facilities are available for use and in a safe and clean condition; report problems concerning safety, security, sanitary conditions and maintenance needs.
  • Provide courteous service to members of the public; respond to requests for service or provide referrals to other departments as appropriate.
  • Communicate and respond to low-level calls for service in parks and recreational facilities.
  • Coordinate with facility scheduling staff on use of picnic shelters, sports fields and other park amenities to post reserved signs, turn on/off water/power and resolve conflicts and compliance issues.
  • Update daily patrol logs; prepare maintenance observation reports, incident, general accident, vehicle accident and employee injury reports, or other required reports as necessary.

THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works, and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and an Assistant City Manager.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024 is $441 million with a General Fund operating budget of $201 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 900 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
