The Department of General Services (DGS) has an outstanding career opportunity for an energetic, experienced Construction Project Coordinator in the Eastern Region of Pennsylvania! Construction portfolio consists of projects located within other Commonwealth Agency facilities such as Department of Corrections (Correctional Institutions), Department of Human Services (State Hospital and Center Facilities), Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (Universities), Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (Readiness Center and Veterans' Hospital), Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (Flood Control, State Parks), and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Headquarter Building).

This position is home headquartered; however, daily travel to job sites in the following Eastern Region counties is required: Bucks, Bradford, Carbon, Chester, Columbia, Delaware, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming. In addition, you may occasionally be asked to travel to the following counties outside of the Eastern Region: Berks, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Schuylkill.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Construction Project Coordinator, you will report directly to the Regional Director and oversee a team of Assistant Construction Project Coordinators who assist in coordinating capital improvement projects for Commonwealth agencies and higher educational institutions within DGS' Eastern Region.

Job duties will include directing, through subordinate staff, the management of construction and renovation projects. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Providing direction and technical guidance
  • Reviewing project schedules and resolving construction problems and disputes
  • Attending a variety of pre-construction and construction meetings
  • Ensuring action items and project concerns are followed up on
  • Serving as a liaison with Client Agencies, Professionals, and Contractors
  • Assisting in the preparation of project specifications
  • Ensuring construction is in accordance with approved plans, specs, general conditions, laws, regulations, and procedures
  • Reviewing and monitoring extensions of time, schedule of values, change orders, schedules, and requests for information
  • Monitoring project progress to ensure adherence to project schedules
  • Using construction computer software and generating various documents/reports in the IT (Information Technology) system
  • Representing the Department in claims and disputes
  • Ensuring effective and efficient customer care to all client agencies

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • This position is home-headquartered, however daily travel is required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Assistant Construction Project Coordinator, DGS; or
  • Five years of professional building construction administration, construction planning, or construction project engineering experience for renovations and new construction of commercial, institutional, or educational buildings; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:
  • You must possess and maintain an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must currently reside in or be willing to relocate prior to employment to Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia Counties.
  • You must be willing and able to travel to construction sites in the Eastern Region: Bucks, Bradford, Carbon, Chester, Columbia, Delaware, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.
  • You must be willing to occasionally travel to counties outside of the Eastern Region: Berks, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, and Schuylkill.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Prefer Supervisory skills and experience.
  • Prefer a candidate that has experience in Commercial, Institutional, and Educational Construction and Renovation projects with a working knowledge of a CPM Schedule and Multi-Prime Contractors.
  • Experience in reading, following, creating, and understanding the various components of a Critical Path Method Schedule.
  • Experience writing, generating correspondence to contractors, design professionals and/or clients regarding project issues, conditions, or potential actions.
  • Experience conducting construction meetings.
  • Has experience in reading, understanding, and executing Contract Documents for Multi-Prime Contractors and have the skills to manage and investigate Contractor(s) disputes.
  • Thorough understanding of Change Orders and possess knowledge to evaluate, negotiate, approve, disapprove, and process in eBuilder.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite and/or Construction Management Software.
  • Experienced in compiling information from various sources, prepare reports in Word, Excel, etc., and present reports both orally and in writing to Team members.
