Job Summary

We are seeking qualified applicants for Head Lifeguards. Under the direction of the designated supervisor, monitors aquatic activities to ensure participant safety and performs rescues as necessary for water sports or pool environments for participants and facility users of all ages and backgrounds. Assists in training lifeguards and maintaining records. A successful candidate will be organized, patient, customer-forward, a problem solver, teamwork, and an effective communicator. PRCS serves a diverse population including but not limited to youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.

We are currently hiring at the following locations:

• Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center, Sterling, VA
• Dulles South Recreation and Community Center, South Riding, VA

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Maintains operation of pools.
• Manages conditions of pool water.
• Monitors safe use of pools by patrols.
• Recruits staff.
• Schedules aquatics programs and activities.
• Sets up the pool for varied programs and use.
• May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.

*Work hours vary Monday through Friday 4:30 am - 9:30 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm*


This position is eligible for a $3,000.00 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of aquatics experience inclusive of aquatics programming, pool facility management, and working with the public, groups, and organizations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
• Knowledge of basic first aid techniques necessary to treat injuries that may occur in a pool environment.
• Skill in swimming and applying lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
• Ability to physically make rescues as required.
• Knowledge of pool equipment and proper pool chemistry.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

• Pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Hold Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, First Aid Certification, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification within the required timeframes.
• Hold a Loudoun County-approved Pool Operator's License.
