Ramboll is accepting applications for the Summer 2024 internship program at our office located in Bowie, MD, and at client water and wastewater treatment plants. Each participant will be assigned a mentor who will guide them through project assignments. The program will provide internship participants with the opportunity to gain experience working in one or more practice areas. Our goal is to afford our interns experience with a variety of projects during the summer program to broaden their understanding an experience within their field of interest.

The intern this summer will be supporting a registered professional electrical engineer with three Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission projects in the design and construction phases. The intern will spend time accompanying the professional engineer on construction inspections, design review meetings, reviewing Water Facilities Design Practice Standards, and learning how to make drawings that make sense to Contractors and meet US Standards.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The applicant will be working with a registered professional engineer on projects related to water electrical power distribution systems and water process control design and construction experience on site, with the opportunity to assist with inspections and commissioning activities during construction of water and wastewater facilities.

  • Assist the Owner's Agent,with electrical power distribution system design, process control system design, and on-site construction processes at Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) water and wastewater treatment plants at the following locations in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties:
    • WSSC Piscataway Wastewater Treatment Plant
    • WSSC Parkway Wastewater Treatment Plant
    • WSSC Potomac Water Filtration Plant
  • 40-80% travel required to the Bowie, MD Ramboll office and to client water and wastewater facilities. Valid driver's license and car will be required. This is primarily an on-site opportunity, although some days may be spent in a "hybrid" situation.
  • This is not a Computer Science or Information Technology internship. The focus will be on water and wastewater treatment plant electrical power distribution design up to 69 kV, and process control design and construction activities, including the following:
    • Quality Assurance and Quality Control of ongoing Water projects
    • How to read Construction Drawings
    • How to read Construction Specifications
    • Inspection of construction projects in progress
    • Assist the Owner's Agent with review of design and construction submittals, meeting agendas, and meeting minutes.
    • Inspect facilities for conformance to National Electrical Code requirements
  • Normal working hours will be 7 am to 4 pm with an hour off for lunch.

  • Candidates who are ready to start their Junior or Senior year at an ABET-accredited 4-year electrical engineering program leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering Degree candidates will be considered for this internship.
  • Candidates with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above are strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with past employment as electricians or apprentices, who are working towards a college degree, will also be considered for this internship.
  • Student Membership in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) or International Society of Automation (ISA) will be a plus.
  • Autocad drafting or Revit computer-aided drafting experience will be a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software applications will be a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Live within 50 miles of Prince George's County during summer internship
  • Valid driver's license and a car.
