Hiring Range: $20.99/hr - $23.61/hr

NATURE OF WORK:

Employee works under well-established guidelines to develop sufficient knowledge to independently perform and assume responsibilities. Under general supervision, will perform duties associated with instructing or leading State-Licensed programs. Employees at this level provide specialized instruction and program supervision which may include the coordination of schedules and activities in the assigned area. All staff are expected to adhere to the Town's mission, vision and values of PRIDE.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Camp Duties

  • Performs a variety of duties associated with instructing or leading State-Licensed programs.
  • Offer specialized instruction and program supervision, which involves coordinating schedules and activities in the designated areas.
  • Provides a safe, effective and supportive learning environment for diverse participants with varying skill levels.
  • Sets up and takes down required program equipment.
  • Provides exceptional guest service to all participants. Responds to information requests, comments and complaints from participants.
  • Stays abreast of latest trends and techniques in areas of expertise. Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends new activities or techniques.

Administrative Duties

  • Plans program curriculum and conducts individualized or group instruction in areas of expertise.
  • Use knowledge and expertise to modify class activities for various participant skill levels.
  • Maintains program related records and reports, including state required documentation.
  • Assist Coordinator with all supervisory duties related to State-Licensed program staff. Plans and conducts staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
  • Participate in or develops marketing material for events and programs.

Other/Miscellaneous

  • Administer first aid, CPR and may assist with other medical attention as needed.
  • Remain composed and makes sound judgments in any emergency or non-emergency situation. Responds to emergency situations, administers first aid, CPR or other medical attention as needed,
  • and completes incident reports. May be certified to administer medication per State Licensing regulations.
  • Ensure the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests.
  • May be considered as a subject expert for area of specialization and may train other staff on specific knowledge.
  • Drive Town-owned vehicles to and from destinations while transporting passengers. Operates assigned motor vehicles safely and obeys all applicable traffic laws.
  • Ensure vehicle is ready for use including, but not limited to, obtaining keys, filling with gas, and cleaning vehicle/inspecting upon return.
  • Ensure passengers adhere to the correct usage of vehicle safety equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and must successfully pass Criminal Background Check. Must have one of the following:

  • Four year degree in recreation, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field
  • Two years of college plus six months verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen, in the care and supervision of four or more children
  • Three years of verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen, in the care and supervision of four or more children. Must have completed 40 hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first nine months of employment

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS

  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within three months of hire
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication skills and must possess expert knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of recreational aquatics operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required.

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication; supervision, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; handling controversial issues; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed inside and outside a standard recreational facility environment. Work may involve competing demands, and performing multiple tasks.

Physical Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift storage boxes and sports equipment of 20lbs or more.
