How you make a difference:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for Department of State Hospitals (DSH) is responsible for assisting and collecting patient data in the delivery of care in the Correctional Setting. This includes administering medication, taking vitals, conducting chart reviews, and working closely with the psychiatric prescriber on the care and treatment of Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) patients. The LVN also facilitates tele-psychiatry appointments and provides competency restoration services to IST patients in both group and individual formats.

Key Responsibilities:
Assists in the assessment and data collection of patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions in the correctional setting and plans individual treatment plans with available resources.
Provides restoration of competency services to Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) patients in both group and individual formats, as well as count controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps.
Implements medical plans, administers medications, and obtains diagnostic tests in accordance with Health Care Practitioner's orders and protocols while ensuring proper techniques and procedures are followed.
Assists the Health Care Practitioner in medical or minor surgical procedures as necessary and documents nursing encounters using the SOAPE form of charting as required.
Communicates patient information to nursing staff, physician, health care unit supervisory personnel, and other staff as necessary and ensures that policies, procedures, and guidelines for practice are established to guide their practice.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing

Experience

One (1) or more years clinic experience preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state of employment
Current CPR certification required
Phlebotomy certification strongly preferred
