Position Summary: Children's Aid's The P2 Project (The Pregnancy Prevention Project) aims to reduce and prevent the incidence of unintended adolescent pregnancy in Children's Aid's priority areas in NYC by providing young people with the holistic tools to meet their greatest potentials through evidence-based sexuality education, comprehensive reproductive health services, and peer health education. The main objectives of the program are:

  1. Provide comprehensive, age appropriate, sexuality health education for adolescents (11 - 22).
  2. Provide strategies for young people to make healthy decisions and set goals for the future.
  3. Connect youth to reproductive health services.
  4. Encourage youth/adult partnerships and effective communication.
  5. Create and foster community and organizational partnerships to reduce the incidence of unintended adolescent pregnancy in our communities.

Under the supervision of the OPA Program Manager, the OPA Program Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in the planning, development, coordination, and evaluation of the OPA Program that includes collaboration with multiple programs within Children's Aid and the NYC DOE. The OPA Coordinator will be responsible for training and scheduling the OPA health educators on conducting evidence-based programming in OPA sites; provide one-on-one sessions for youth participants; and facilitate workshops if needed. The OPA Coordinator will also assist in the recruiting, training, and oversight of the peer education and youth development component of the OPA Program at the school and other program sites assigned; coordinate with the Family Planning Program staff to assure that teens receive needed family planning services at the CA Health Centers; and organize and/or join existing Community Advisory Councils in the Bronx, Manhattan, Staten Island, and Harlem.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain linkages and partner relationships with CA Adolescent Programs, Schools and Community Based Organizations.
  • Assist in the supervision of the overall implementation and evaluation of the OPA Program's work plan, goals, and activities.
  • With the Program Manager, provide oversight of the reproductive health education program activities for the OPA Program which involves the overall coordination of the OPA program work plan at partner schools and community based organizations in the Bronx and Staten Island.
  • Train evidence-based curricula to incoming Health Educators and peer health educators
  • Maintain attendance in an existing community advisory committees
  • Provide individual counseling services (sexual decision-making, growth and development, pregnancy prevention, STI's and HIV pre and post-test counseling) to youth in CA program sites (community schools and youth centers) and other school and community-based settings.
  • Conduct evidence-based health education sessions/groups to youth and parents at CA, DOE and other CBO program sites as needed.
  • Participates in the process of developing, obtaining, evaluating and maintaining written and audio-visual health education materials as required by program.
  • Documents all group/workshops and individual counseling services.
  • Offers and arranges for family planning services at CA Health Centers for youth at program sites.
  • Participates as part of a team with other staff to provide quality patient care.
  • Attends training sessions conducted by other agencies in order to develop skills and knowledge required of an educator in a CA program.
  • Submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports of the activities and outcomes of the OPA Program.
  • Maintain accurate client data and activity records and statistical compilations.
  • Attend professional development trainings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Health Education, Public Administration or a related field with 4-6 years of related experience with adolescents and reproductive health education
  • Emotional maturity and good decision making skills
  • Accurate record keeping skills and organizational abilities
  • Computer literacy
  • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to travel to the Bronx and Staten Island to work in multiple sites
  • Must be able to work evenings
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish a plus
