Maintenance/Custodial

The Salvation Army Midland Division Shelter located in Jefferson City, Missouri, is looking to fill our Maintenance/ Custodial position. It is expected to perform all functions of a custodian which includes but is not limited to: Ensure that building, grounds, and vehicle are cleaned/maintained in a timely fashion. Most of the work done in the position will be of the physical labor type.

This is a part-time, 20 hour a week, position with pay of $14.00 per hour.

Essential Functions

• Maintain the Shelter/Corps buildings, grounds, and vehicle in a neat and clean condition.
• Follow a weekly routine cleaning list and a monthly special project list to include by not limited to performing housekeeping duties including dusting, window washing, cleaning restrooms, vacuuming/shampooing/spot cleaning carpets, sweeping/mopping/buffing/stripping/waxing tile floors, emptying trash, etc.
• Keep outside area trash picked up.
• Assist with snow removal. Responsible for ensuring sidewalks are cleared and treated in snow/ice events.
• Make routine weekly checks of all areas of the campus for cleaning or maintenance needs.
• Maintain janitorial and restroom supplies.
• Fill out purchase order for needed supplies and submit to office.
• Guide repair personnel to problem areas.
• Collect and dispose of all trash.
• Make light repairs, perform maintenance work and painting projects as assigned by Corps Officers. Adhere to a given maintenance checklist. Assist with preventive maintenance of furnaces and other equipment (i.e. changing filters, etc.).

Education and Experience

• High school/equivalent diploma and one year of related work experience or two years' work experience without diploma.
• Position requires basic communications with customers and other employees.
• Ability to comprehend written job description, cleaning instructions, and material safety data sheets.
• Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.
• One year's previous custodian work experience, and some minor maintenance experience is a plus.

Physical Working Conditions

• Capable of frequently lifting 30 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds.
• Occasionally moves 100 pounds or more using dolly/cart/truck.
• Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height.
• Some lifting required above waist and shoulder height, but it will be at a reduced weight.
• Employee will have to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items to accomplish this job.
• Occasionally climb a ladder to work (replace light bulbs, etc.).
• Some of this work will be outdoors and it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
