The Salvation Army Midland Division Shelter located in Springfield, Missouri, is looking for an individual who would like to apply their experiences to fill our Shelter Manager position. This position advances and supports the Mission of The Salvation Army by managing the operation of the Springfield Corps' shelter programs under the direction of the Springfield Social Services Director.

This is a full-time position with starting pay of $50,000 per year.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the daily operation of the Family Enrichment Center and Harbor House shelters.
  • Supervise shelter staff to ensure continuity of programs, service delivery, and compliance with The Salvation Army federal, state, and local policies, standards and procedures.
  • Recruit, screen, and recommend the hiring of professional and support staff to avoid disruption of services and excessive overtime.
  • Provide orientation and training to new staff and perform consultations in compliance with TSA policy.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and train college undergraduate interns.
  • Resolve staffing and resident issues.
  • Meet routinely with staff to review program progress.
  • Administer disciplinary action as necessary for shelter staff in compliance with TSA policy.
  • Coordinate resident case management activities to ensure positive resident outcomes, fair treatment of residents, confidentiality of residents, proper resident records management, and proper management of resident discipline issues.
  • Perform resident case management function in the absence of assigned case managers and in support of case managers for extenuating cases.

Education and Experience

  • Advanced communication and leadership skills.
  • BA or BS degree in social work, Psychology, or other related field, accompanied by three years' work experience in human service delivery, administration, or management.
  • One year of supervisory experience required. Additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of full education requirement.
  • Team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, display initiative, and exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work with diverse and challenging personalities is essential.

Additional Qualifications

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite in the O365/Teams environment. A familiarity with databases is a plus. Must possess or obtain Adult and Child CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens certification, Salvation Army Safe from Harm certification and complete HMIS training within three months of employment. Must have a valid driver license, pass TSA MVR check, and have reliable transportation. Demonstrated knowledge of community agencies and the ability to network with them is essential. Conflict resolution skills are essential.

Physical Requirements

  • Some duties involve leaving the main job site for business needs and to attend meetings.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Must be able to work with a wide variety of people ranging from clients with potential personal issues to community and business leaders.
