Description

JOB TITLE: Operations Supervisor

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

With relation to current production schedule, coordinates crew, assigning duties, setting equipment parameters and performing various product quality inspections. Maintain effective communication with operations manager, shift supervisor, maintenance supervisor, shipping supervisor, inventory control supervisor, warehouse supervisor, operations lead, mixer, operator, and QA personnel. Responsible using procedures that ensure food safety and quality product.

Support the review, understanding and compliance of all programs, policies and procedures contained in the Food Safety and Quality Management System. Understand my role in food safety and regulatory responsibilities as required by the SQF Food Safety Code and report any food safety concerns to initiate appropriate action.

1.

65% Responsible for ensuring that safety, company policy, quality procedures and good manufacturing practices (GMPs) including Master Sanitation Schedule, are understood and followed by members. Responsible for serving as the catalyst in developing members to prevent and solve problems. Responsible for ensuring that productivity goals are achieved and setting direction for the production team to accomplish these goals. Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs. Responsible to direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production or processing of goods, such as operations lead, mixers, operators, and packers etc. Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals. Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.

20% Responsible for performing daily and weekly planning to assure that the scheduling of ingredients, personnel, and products are utilized in the most cost efficient manner. Responsible for communicating with other shifts any information that might aid the production supervisor/QA personnel on those shifts. Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production or processing of finish goods, such as mixers, operators, lid setters, packers, production material handler and stackers.

3. 10% Additional responsibilities include verifying the availability of raw materials, preparing for daily production start-ups and daily production reports and entering production numbers and down time information into the Excel Efficiency Report, Downtime Log and Production Attendance. Enforce safety and sanitation regulations.

4. 5% Interviewing, hiring staff, taking disciplinary action as necessary, employee evaluations as required

Education Level and Focus:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

5 years + in a leadership position implementing tracking systems and procedures. Teaching/training/directing employees in all areas of operations from been staging and reconciliation to dumping of ingredients (including dice and paste), batching, filling, packaging, inventory tracking. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Attendance:

Ability to be punctual with regular attendance. Ability to work overtime as needed.

Interpersonal and Communication:

Ability to function with minimal supervision, including the capacity to follow verbal and written instruction, team player, ability to speak and write English. Ability to teach/train/direct employees to achieve quality goals, efficiencies outputs, meet safety standards and maintain open communications between all departments/areas. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Providing information to shift supervisors, co-workers, and members by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

Technical and Analytical:

Ability to use Microsoft programs; Excel, Word, Outlook. Ability to reconcile case counts and material usage in raw ingredients as well as packaging yields. Experience in product development and working with support organizations i.e. Research and Development, Quality Assurance, customer representatives. Experience in supervising processes and employees through Regulatory audits. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Administrative and Operations:

Experience in developing S.O.P's. Ability to train employees in policy/procedures as well as teaching employees on safe work habits and completing all injury reported documents. Ability to develop line reports and tracking systems for efficiencies, Inventories and material usage reconciliations. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

Physical Demands:

Agile, ability to stand for long periods of time, reaching, bending, lift 40+ lbs, pushing, pulling, stretching

Work Environment:

Food plant, cold, hot and humid conditions, wet floors, high noise levels, forklift and pedestrian traffic. This is a Safety Sensitive Position.

Forklift, thermometers, scales, pumps and bin dumping equipment, cryovac fillers and check weighing equipment, case forming and sealing machines, palletize, stretch wrappers, case coders, glue pots and machines, case packer, tape sealing machines, label machines. Communication radios, PC computers.
