About this job

Organizes and monitors the use, and safety, of water recreational activities at the Boys Town Camp. This position includes free room and board at Lake Okoboji.

$15.00/hour plus free room & board. Extra compensation available for boating experience. Completion bonus at the end of the summer based on performance and attendance.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Organizes, monitors, and promotes water recreational activities.
  • Organizes recreational activities and keeps all equipment ready for use. Makes minor repairs on equipment, and reports equipment damage to the Camp Director.
  • Manages recreational activities during camp schedule, such as swimming, boating, tubing, water basketball and volleyball, kayaking and other recreational activities. Ensures the proper use of all equipment.
  • Monitors the safety of all equipment, youth, and employees during all recreational activities.
  • Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the yard and interior of camp.
  • Follows the IA State Food Guidelines when assisting in meal preparations and serving food.
  • Provides basic First Aid as needed.
  • Drives Boys Town vehicle as needed to complete duties of the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of water safety, boating, and principles of sailing and canoeing.
  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to quickly make decisions in sensitive and sometimes critical areas and to adapt responses to situations, while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.
  • Knowledge of Boys Town Model.
  • Ability to successfully lead youth in the completion of tasks and redirect inappropriate youth behaviors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • First Aid Certification required.
  • Lifeguard Certification required.
  • CPR Certification required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred.
